KL Rahul, out of nowhere, hogged the limelight after it was speculated that Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a potential trade in the works.
Initially, it was linked to Rishabh Pant’s homecoming to Delhi, which might pose a threat to KL Rahul, the keeper. However, if recent reports are to be believed, it is much more than that.

According to Sportstak, the first media house to report on KL Rahul’s potential trade to KKR, the stylish batter had an animated coffee incident during the IPL 2026 in the DC dressing room, which has gone down well with the owners.

Moreover, Times of India’s Arani Basu has made another revelation about Rahul. Apparently, the 34-year-old is looking to move his base from Delhi to find a peaceful environment where he can sum up his IPL career.

Additionally, the renowned journalist also hinted that the fight with DC only started after the cricketer had received lucrative offers from other franchises.
“He (KL Rahul) was exactly not on talking terms with the team management last year (IPL 2026). He used to practice on his own and check with the curator (directly) about how the pitches were,” as reported by TOI’s journalist.
“It was all over the place with Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao by the end of the tournament, at different ends of the ground,” he added.
“Things were right, and, see, KL will turn 35 in April (next year), and I think he will be entering the last leg of his IPL career. Maybe he would look to finish somewhere with some peace. And maybe there could be some lucrative offers as well, as all these fights only start when players have offers from other places. Everything was okay when I checked two months ago.”

Although DC finished outside the top four teams last season, KL Rahul was among the top run-getters, finishing with 593 in 14 innings at a strike rate of 174.41, which has been the highest for him across all seasons.
During a DC vs PBKS fixture, the prolific opener slammed an unbeaten 152* off just 67 deliveries, holding the record for the highest individual by an Indian batter in the league, and third on the overall list, but in a losing cause.
Nevertheless, in his two seasons with Delhi, Rahul has amassed 1132 runs in 27 matches at nearly 50, with a whopping strike rate of 161.71. The next on the list is Tristan Stubbs with 575 runs, making the opener the biggest hit for DC since his arrival.
Why would KL Rahul join KKR?
With the likes of Finn Allen and Angrish Raghuvanshi already integral parts of the current KKR setup, KL Rahul will have tough competition in the top order for the three-time champions.
Moreover, they also have Tejasvi Dahiya in their ranks, who got only two chances last season despite bagging an INR 3 crore contract.
However, after Ajinkya Rahane’s sudden retirement, Kolkata are in search of a captain, which is why they were apparently heavily invested in acquiring Hardik Pandya’s trade from MI.
With Pandya's trade from MI to Kolkata almost called off, KKR’s handshake with KLR would be the next best pick possible.
