Amidst a lot of controversies hovering over the early Pakistan Super League 2026 season, the league found one of its high-profile captains facing allegations of affecting teammates with religious activities.

In what is supposed to be a historic season for the PSL, with the introduction of two new teams, the Rawalpindiz and the Hyderabad Kingsmen, something negative has jolted the spirits in Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB. The latest news surrounds the Rawalpindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan, who is being accused of dampening the spirits in the dressing room.

To calm things down over the issue, the leading run-scorer of the Rawalpindiz, Sam Billings, whose name is also attached to it, had to come out in support of his captain and speak up on it.

Sam Billings ridicules allegations on PSL and Rizwan

On April 17, what looks like a Kolkata Knight Riders fan’s account, Aman.pb, made serious claims that Mohammad Rizwan and teammates are affecting the squad’s mental health, quoting Sam Billings.

According to his tweet, Billings spoke at a press conference and said Rizwan and others offering Namaz (religious prayers) in the dressing room affected his mental well-being. However, Billings did not take long to respond and ridicule the post, calling it out for fake quoting him.

Hours after the post went viral, the England wicketkeeper batter came out in his teammates’ defence and revealed that he hadn’t done any media duties, which proves that it is a fake quote to taint the league’s image.

Sam Billings carries a broken Rawalpindiz unit

With the PSL 2026 league phase entering its final weeks, the Rawalpindiz are the only team yet to win any match to open their points tally. Ahead of their April 18 clash against the Lahore Qalandars, they have lost six in six and sit at the rock bottom of the points table, with a net run rate of -1.821.

Nonetheless, the England batter has been one of the positives, who has been consistent with the bat. With 6 innings played, he averages 41.5 for 166 runs at a strike rate of 148.21. With two fifties to his name, he is the leading run-scorer of the Rawalpindiz unit. He has also grabbed four catches, which is also the most in the squad.

Rizwan’s torrid T20 run continues

With the team on the lookout for their first win of the season, Mohammad Rizwan, who recorded incredibly poor BBL 2025/26 numbers, scoring 187 runs at a strike rate of 102.74 in 10 innings, has been in a similar form on the home turf.

At the back of a season, where his team won 1/10 matches, he has scored 98 runs in 6 innings, striking at 118.07 in PSL 2026 as the captain.

At the time of writing, the Rawalpindiz have been asked to chase 211 runs against the Lahore Qalandars on the night in Karachi, where the average second innings score has been 176.40.
