Despite not being at his best in the ongoing tournament, Axar Patel remains a vital cog for the Delhi Capitals. The captain of the franchise, Axar, can give four quality overs, and as witnessed against RCB, he can also score runs when needed by the side.
In the IPL 2026 game between RCB and DC, the contest was evenly poised as the Capitals were cruising towards RCB’s total of 176. Despite losing three early wickets, KL Rahul scored a match-winning fifty, and after his dismissal, Axar took the mantle forward.
He scored a crucial 26 off 19 balls as DC was inching closer towards the winning target, but in an unfortunate turn of events, the Capitals captain suffered from cramps. He had to retire hurt and was struggling to walk back as RCB all-rounder, Krunal Pandya, lent a shoulder.
DC provide official update on Axar Patel's injury
Axar is a key player, and despite the win over RCB, his injury has given a massive headache to the DC management. After the RCB Vs DC match, Axar didn’t arrive for the post-game presser, as KL Rahul arrived alongside Team Director, Venugopal Rao.
The team director gave a key update on the seriousness of Axar’s injury:
"Axar Patel has had a cramp, he will be fit for the next game. Last game he has done the role, Stubbs. We are blessed to have him. Born and brought up here. Used all his experience, the kind of role we have given him, he is fulfilling it. Birthday boy."

Axar's all-round performance steals the show vs RCB
The Chinnaswamy Stadium is a high-scoring venue, but the Capitals ensured that RCB were restricted to a below-par total on a Saturday afternoon. Almost all the DC bowlers chipped in with wickets, but the star of the show was the team captain.
In three overs, Axar gave just 18 runs, and picked up two crucial wickets to stop the RCB juggernaut. He got the prized wickets of Devdutt Padikkal, and the dangerous Tim David as his bowling prowess brought DC back in the contest.
In the chase, KL Rahul laid a solid platform before he departed. Axar Patel came to bat at a tricky situation, but he continued the onslaught as the left-handed batter scored a valuable 26 runs before retiring hurt.
Axar Patel's DC jump to 4th in points tally
Before the RCB Vs DC IPL match, the Capitals were 5th in points tally, with 2 wins out of 4. However, a last-over win helped the team enter the top four as the Delhi-based franchise now sits at 4th position, with 3 wins out of 5.
The captain led from the front as he took key wickets and also slammed valuable runs. Apart from him, KL Rahul scored a fifty against his favourite opponent, and David Miller redeemed himself with a last-over heroics to seal the win.
After the win on Saturday, Delhi Capitals will next take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 21.
