For the last two hours, all the fans sitting inside the Guwahati Stadium thought that the RR Vs MI IPL 2026 match would be abandoned, especially considering the poor drainage system inside the stadium. However, it seems the rain god had some mercy as the covers were eventually off in Guwahati, with the match set to get underway.

The KKR Vs PBKS IPL match was called off yesterday, and if the ongoing match were abandoned, it would have been the first time that two back-to-back IPL matches were called off without a single ball being bowled.

However, we now have the revised playing time and conditions, with a 20-overs game not possible at the moment.

Revised playing conditions for RR Vs MI IPL match

  • The toss would take place at 9:55 PM IST, and the first ball would be delivered at 10:10 PM. Interestingly, it would be an 11-over-a-side contest, with the powerplay taking place for only 3.2 overs.
  • Moreover, there will be a 10 minute break in between two innings.
  • 1 bowler can bowl a maximum of 3 overs
  • 4 bowlers can bowl a maximum of 2 overs each

Team bating second gets an advantage

Guwahati witnessed plenty of rain throughout the day, and even the conditions in the evening were windy, which could come in handy for the team that bats second.

With the city witnessing plenty of rain, windy conditions will help the bowlers, as the moisture will help them enhance the movement. Overcast conditions increase the density of air, which helps the pacers get the movement they need to tackle the batters.

Moreover, in a rain-curtailed match, chasing is always the best idea as it allows the team batting second to assess the conditions better. In this case, Mumbai Indians won the toss and not so surprisingly, Hardik Pandya decided to field first.

RR will be at a disadvantage as they have to bat first, without knowing what the best score is at this venue.
