Punjab Kings would consider themselves unlucky as the Shreyas Iyer-led side was on top against the struggling KKR at the Eden Gardens, but rain arrived at the wrong time to ruin their momentum. KKR was pushed on the back foot as the hosts had lost 2 wickets inside 25 runs before the rain god decided to interrupt.
The Accuweather had predicted that the KKR Vs PBKS IPL 2026 match would be hampered by rain, and it came true as both sets of players were left frustrated. The entire ground was covered by the ground staff as the rain intensity increased with each passing minute.
KKR Vs PBKS IPL match abandoned
A news that was always on the cards- The KKR vs PBKS IPL match has officially been abandoned. The rain intensity was too high, and the spectators started to leave the stadium at 10 PM. Apart from the relentless rain, the Eden Gardens also witnessed a hailstorm as the conditions weren’t appropriate for a game of cricket.
The entire stadium was covered by the ground staff, but for the IPL match to commence, the rain had to stop, which it didn’t. As a result, the IPL governing body had no choice but to abandon the KKR vs PBKS IPL clash in Kolkata.
KKR Vs PBKS: IPL 2026 table after washout IPL match
The Shreyas Iyer-led side would be disappointed with the match result, as the team dominated the proceedings against the Knight Riders. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane elected to bat first on a seaming deck, and the side lost two early wickets before rain stopped the game.
With the match called off, both KKR and PBKS will share a point each, and the hosts won’t be too disappointed, considering they were down and out in the first 6 overs. Punjab now has 5 points, and they go above RCB to top the IPL 2026 points table.
On the other hand, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side has opened their IPL account, and has a solitary point, which takes them to 8th in the points table tally. Only GT and CSK sit below KKR as the former IPL champions will aim for a better showing in their next game.

Problems a plenty for KKR in upcoming matches
The Knight Riders might have opened their IPL account with a solitary point, but that doesn’t hide the glaring weaknesses in their squad.
First of all, the KKR batting has a plethora of chinks in its armour. Ajinkya Rahane’s best batting position is at the top, but he struggles to score runs after the power play as KKR often loses momentum in big games. Also, Cameron Green’s form is a major cause of worry.
In three IPL 2026 games, he has only scored 24 runs, and has not bowled a single delivery in the tournament as the management looks frustrated with him. The middle-order lacks firepower, and with Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine injured and unwell, things have become complicated for the former IPL champions.
