The KKR Vs PBKS IPL 2026 match was abandoned on Monday, and something similar is on the cards in the crucial match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians at the Guwahati Stadium. In the past, both sides have had close-fought battles with each other, but it looks as if the fans and both sets of players will leave the field disappointed tonight.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were predicted by AccuWeather for Tuesday evening, and the predictions came true as Guwahati witnessed rain, which was also accompanied by a hailstorm right before the start of the match.

The RR Vs MI IPL 2026 match in Guwahati is crucial for both teams, and as a result, all eyes will be on the Guwahati stadium drainage system. Does the stadium have the capacity to handle tons of water?

Guwahati Stadium drainage system: Will RR Vs MI IPL match commence?

At the moment, rain is accompanied by a thunderstorm at the stadium, and the match will not commence, at least for the next hour. Even if the rain stops, things could turn ugly for both sides as the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati doesn’t have the best of drainage systems.

The ground is installed with an underground drainage system designed to handle heavy rainfall. While designed to be efficient, the stadium has witnessed lapses in the past, and unlike Chinnaswamy Stadium, or any other top grounds of India, the Barsapara doesn’t have the best of drainage capability.

Guwahati Stadium has a subsoil system used to drain out the water quickly; however, in the past, the ground has come under scrutiny for its unreliable drainage performance. In some scenarios, ground staff have deployed tools like blowers and fans to dry out the surface.

What happens if RR Vs MI IPL 2026 gets washed out

A washout is certainly on the cards in the RR Vs MI IPL match, and if that happens, both sides will be left disappointed. If the IPL match is called off, both sides will share a point each, which won’t benefit either of the two IPL franchises.

A point would mean RR, who currently have 4 points, will get to 5 points (2 wins and a washout). This would take them to the second position in the points tally, and the Royals will go past RCB, who currently sit in second spot.

Mumbai Indians, who currently have 2 points, will get to 3, and that would take them to fifth position in the points tally.
