The much-awaited IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians has been delayed due to heavy rain in Guwahati, Assam. Notably, the city experienced heavy downpour since afternoon and the weather gods didn't allow the game to start on time.
The toss was scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm but the coin flip was delayed after heavy rain and lightning, making it unsafe for the players or captains to walk in the middle of the ground. The rain halted for a while, but in an unfortunate update, the drizzle is back.
MI vs RR IPL 2026: Guwahati Weather Update
At present things are not looking good. There is around two hours of rain predicted. Interestingly, the rain had stopped for around 30 minutes around 6 pm, but slight drizzle returned, resulting in the delay. Notably, there is 87% chances of heavy rain.
Things do not look good as overs will start to deduct after 8:40 pm, which is 1 hours and 10 minutes from the standard start of play, which is 7:30 pm IST. Notably, the fans are worried about second straight match getting washed out due to rain.

As things do not look good and heavy downpour continue in Guwahati, there is a curiousity about a cut-off time for a five-over game and this article will shed light on that.
What Is The Cut-Off Time For A 5-Over Match Between MI and RR?
The IPL has not made any official statement regarding the cut-off time, but reports from Sportstar mentioned that the last cut-off time for a five-over match is 10:56 pm. For the unversed, an uninterrupted IPL game has to finish by 10:30 pm but the league has allocated extra hour of play in such rain-affected games.
Therefore, the groundstaff and the fans have the chance to witness a five-over match till 10:56 pm. However, post that, the match will be called-off and both teams will share a point each.
Mumbai Indians And Rajasthan Royals To Share A Point Each
Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians both will be upset by the delay in start and in case the game gets washed out due to heavy downpour. Notably, RR are unbeaten so far in the tournament and have four points in two matches.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, started IPL 2026 with a win, but suffered a defeat against Delhi Capitals. The Hardik Pandya-led side have 2 points in two matches and with a point today, they will be played 5th on the table with 3 points.
Update: The rain has stopped and super stoppers are at work. However, the drainage system is quite poor in Guwahati.
