The two unbeaten teams of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals, met in Guwahati on Friday night in a rain-affected game, as they aimed for the number 1 spot on the points table.

After putting the defending champions in to bat first, RR were all over RCB in the powerplay, as they decimated their batting line-up. Virat Kohli was the only one holding one end in the initial overs; however, upon his dismissal on a brilliant delivery, RR’s social media caught the attention of fans online, taking a sly dig at Virat Kohli.

Batting at 32 off 15 at the end of the fifth over, Virat Kohli got done by an incredible googly from Ravi Bishnoi from outside off, which crashed onto his leg stump. Out of the team’s 58 runs in 4.5 overs, Kohli had scored seven fours and finished his innings at a strike rate of 200, scoring 32 off 16.

Usually known for his consistency in big games, the phrase, ‘Jaha matter bade hote hai, waha Virat Kohli khade hote hai’ [Virat Kohli always stands up for the team when the going gets tough], is associated with Kohli. Fans and commentators often use these lines to describe his greatness and temperament.

However, as the purple cap holder, the in-form Ravi Bishnoi went through Kohli’s gates, the Rajasthan Royals took to their Twitter (X) account and used the line for Ravi Bishnoi’s brilliance in a fun banter. They instantly gained traction on the tweet and received both fun and negative responses.

Captain Patidar and co. save the day for RCB

Despite a good start given by Virat Kohli’s smart knock, full of fours, RCB found themselves in trouble as soon as Kohli was dismissed. The middle order trio of Krunal Pandya, Jitesh Sharma and Tim David were dismissed soon, and they were 94/6 in 11 overs.

However, captain Patidar took the onus and scored a valiant 63 off 40 with four fours and four sixes alongside Romario Shepherd’s 22(11) and impact substitute Venkatesh Iyer’s 29*(15). The cameos with Patidar’s fifty took RCB past the 200 run mark as they finished with 201/8, scoring 107 runs in the final 9 overs at the back of the start from Kohli.

Ravi Bishnoi continues a memorable IPL 2026 start

The out-of-favour Indian leg spinner was among some of the underwhelming performers in recent IPL seasons and was released by the Lucknow Super Giants squad after the emergence of Digvesh Rathi. After RR showed faith in him by spending over INR 7 crore in the action, the local Rajasthan star immediately created an impact.

Bishnoi got 1/16 (3) in the first match against CSK, dismissing Matt Henry and backed it up by a 4/41 against GT to run all over the middle order, also getting rid of the dangerous Sai Sudharsan. In a rain-affected match against MI, he dismissed Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma in a single over and ended at 2/25 (2).

Finally, with the wickets Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya against RCB, Bishnoi has 9 wickets in 4 innings, three more than Prasidh Krishna, who has 6 in 3 matches.
