On Wednesday, July 1, India will kickstart their T20I series against England. The two teams will square off for the 1st of a five-match T20I series in Durham. The Men in Blue are fresh off an embarrassing series defeat against Ireland and are seeking redemption against England.
For England, it will be their first T20I series since the 2026 T20 World Cup, where the Harry Brook-led side got knocked out in the semis.

For England, Harry Brook will lead the side. The Three Lions have made a strong squad, featuring Phil Salt and Jos Buttler. Further, Jofra Archer will lead the bowling attack as the right-arm seamer had a great IPL 2026 with Rajasthan Royals.
For India, they have a selection headache at their helm. India suffered a series defeat against Ireland and will be forced to make changes. The biggest question is whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will make his India debut.

It seems that the much-awaited dream of many India fans will be fulfilled on Wednesday, because Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is most likely to be handed his India debut. Sanju Samson is most likely to go out of the playing XI because the CSK opener has scored just 5 runs in 2 innings, averaging 2.50.

Abhishek Sharma was the only positive in the Ireland series, where he scored 49 runs in the first T20I, extending his red-hot form from the final of the T20I World Cup. However, in the 2nd T20I, he departed for a golden duck.
Ishan Kishan has been struggling, as he only amassed 13 runs against Ireland. However, he is doing the keeping duties, and now if Sanju Samson is set to be left out, then Ishan Kishan will retain his place in the team.
Middle Order and All Rounders (Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Suryavansh Shedge)
Skipper Shreyas Iyer will bat at No.4, while Tilak Varma will continue to bat at No.5. The PBKS skipper did not have the best of series against Ireland, but Varma was Men in Blue’s leading run-getter in the series with 74 runs in 2 innings.
Shivam Dube also had a great series, more with the ball than the bat. One thing that got cleared during the Ireland series was that India are looking at Dube as an all-rounder. He picked up 3 wickets in 2 matches and scored 45 runs as well.
Axar Patel is likely to lose his place because India need a batting all-rounder in the team, and Suryavansh Shedge might be promoted to bat at no.7. The PBKS star had a poor India debut, where he scored just 1 run against Ireland.
Bowlers (Varun Chakaravarthy, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana)
Now with firepower at the top and with Axar Patel out of the playing XI, India have been boosted with the return of Varun Chakaravarthy. The right-arm spinner missed the Ireland series due to a foot fracture.
Rest, Harshit Rana will continue to bat at No.8 as he has been providing crucial runs with the bat. To say, Harshit was India’s best player during the Ireland tour. The right-arm seamer took 4 wickets and scored 29 runs with the bat.
Prince Yadav also had a great T20I debut, where he picked up three wickets. Also, Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack for India.
