The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan Group A clash in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to be played on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While fans are eagerly waiting for the blockbuster encounter, the Colombo weather could play a major role in the outcome of the game.
The match was earlier surrounded by controversy after a ten-day-long deadlock between the PCB and the ICC.
Pakistan had initially decided to boycott the fixture, but the Government of Pakistan later reversed its stance and allowed Salman Ali Agha and the team to travel for the match. The confirmation brought relief to cricket fans, but now rain has emerged as a fresh concern.
Colombo weather: Rain might spoil IND vs PAK match
Colombo has been experiencing wet weather throughout the month. Several warm-up matches were washed out by rain, but the main tournament games have not been affected so far. However, forecasts suggest the India vs Pakistan match could likely be interrupted.
On February 15, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with a few showers during the day. The temperature is likely to reach 30°C, but it will feel warmer, around 33°C. The sky is expected to remain fully overcast with 100% cloud cover, making conditions quite gloomy.
There is an 84% chance of rain, with around 2.4 mm of precipitation expected over approximately three hours. There is also a 24% chance of thunderstorms.
Winds are predicted from the north-northwest at 11 km/h, with gusts up to 24 km/h. In the afternoon, the probability of precipitation is 60% and the cloud cover will be 100%.
In the evening, conditions may slightly improve. The temperature is expected to drop to 25°C, with a RealFeel of 27°C. Although cloud cover will remain heavy, no measurable rainfall is currently forecast for the night.
The probability of precipitation is 25%, the humidity is 83%, and the visibility is around 5 km.
What happens if the IND vs PAK match is abandoned?
If rain forces the India vs Pakistan match to be abandoned, both teams will share one point each. Pakistan are currently second in Group A with two wins as well, but their net run rate of +0.932 is lower than India's.
On the other hand, the 'Men in Blue' have two wins from two matches and a net run rate of +3.050, and are currently at the top of the Group A points table.
India enters clash on high after dominant win
India will enter this big match full of confidence after a massive 93-run victory over Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Batting first, India posted a strong total of 209/9. Ishan Kishan played a quick-fire knock of 61 runs off just 24 balls, while Hardik Pandya smashed 52 off 28 deliveries.
Sanju Samson, who replaced Abhishek Sharma in the playing XI, added 22 runs from 8 balls. In reply, Namibia were bowled out for 116 in 18.2 overs. Hardik also impressed with the ball, picking up two wickets for 21 runs.
A washout would mean both teams remain strongly placed to qualify for the next stage. However, fans around the world would be disappointed if the iconic rivalry ended without a result.
