The Pakistan government has officially announced that it has withdrawn from the India vs Pakistan boycott at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This comes after BCB, PCB, and the ICC held a crucial meeting in Lahore on February 8, 2026.

Earlier, the Pakistan government, led by Shehbaz Sharif had announced that Pakistan Cricket Team will play in the T20 World Cup but will not take the field in the game against India, slated to take place on February 15, 2026 in Colombo.

ICC, PCB, BCB end the deadlock over T20 World Cup 2026

Events escalated quickly among the interested parties as soon as the metting concluded in Lahore on February 8. Reports emerged that the BCB and Pakistan Cricket Board had raised multiple issues for ICC to resolve before agreeing to play against India.

These included, Bangladesh not being sanctioned financially and getting to host an ICC tournament in view of missing out this year's T20 World Cup. Demands other than these involved PCB asking ICC to arrange a bilateral series between India and Pakistan, a raise in PCB's annual revenue share, and resumption of handshake between the 2 teams.

Some reports also stated that the BCB and PCB jointly requested the ICC to arrange a tri-series with India. However, the PCB and BCB's joint requests were turned down stating that the ICC had no role in it and only BCCI could take a final call on the matters.

However, BCB's solo demands were considered. In the meantime, other cricket boards joined the action too.

First up, Emirates Cricket Board wrote to the Pakistan Cricket Board to solve the impasse at the earliest.

Later in the day, the Sri Lanka President dialled up Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. To top it all, the Bangladesh Cricket Board came up with an official release asking Pakistan to revoke the IND vs PAK boycott at T20 World Cup 2026.

After the BCB press release, it was imminent that Pakistan will now play the match against India. The International Cricket Council also came up with an official statement honouring Bangladesh Cricket and ensuring that there will be no sanctions on Bangladesh and they will get to host an ICC event too before 2031

As soon as the ICC released a statement, the Pakistan government shared a press note on behalf of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The statement mentioned that Mohsin Naqvi has briefed Shehbaz Sharif of the latest developments among PCB, ICC and BCB. The statement also mentioned appeals from multiple nations and cricket board to revoke the IND vs PAK boycott.

"The Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif has been formally briefed by the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, regarding the outcomes of high-level deliberations held between the PCB, representatives of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)," Pakistan government's press release stated.

"The Government of Pakistan has reviewed the formal requests extended to the PCB by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as well as the supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other member nations. These correspondences sought Pakistan’s leadership in securing a viable solution to recent challenges," the statement further read.

"The Government further noted the statement by BCB President, Mr. Amin ul Islam. The profound gratitude expressed by our brotherly nation is received with great warmth. Pakistan reaffirms that it stands shoulder to shoulder with Bangladesh."

"This evening, the Prime Minister held a telephone call with H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka. During their warm and friendly conversation, they recalled that Pakistan and Sri Lanka had always stood shoulder to shoulder, especially during challenging times. The Sri Lankan President requested the Prime Minister to accord serious consideration to amicably resolve the current impasse," added the official statement.

Further, the statement confirmed that the Pakistan National Cricket Team will take the field against India on February 15, 2026 in Colombo. The note extended good luck to the Pakistan team for their match against India and the remaining of the T20 World Cup 2026.

"In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup."

"Moreover, this decision has been taken with the aim of protecting the spirit of cricket, and to support the continuity of this global sport in all participating nations."

"The Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan extend their best wishes to the "Men in Green." We remain confident that our team will carry the spirit of sportsmanship and national pride onto the field as they compete for global glory," the official press note concluded.

ICC stamps official confirmation on India vs Pakistan match

The International Cricket Council, led by Jay Shah, also confirmed the development officially via a press note.

"The dialogue between ICC and PCB took place as part of a broader engagement with both parties recognising the need for constructive dealings and being united, committed and purposeful in their aspirations to serve the best interests of the game with integrity, neutrality and cooperation," read the ICC statement.

"In that prevailing spirit, it was agreed that all members will respect their commitments as per the terms of participation for ICC events and do all that is necessary to ensure that the ongoing edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is a success."

"With respect to Bangladesh, the ICC reiterated its continued facilitation of growth in one of cricket’s most vibrant markets, with more than 200 million passionate fans to ensure that the national team's non-participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 does not have any long-term effects on cricket in the country," the ICC statement concluded.

Who emerged the Dhurandhar?

Now that the hue and cry has toned down and the dust has settled, the question arises as to who emerged the real 'Dhurandhar'? Maybe it was the ICC, as it compelled Pakistan government to take a U-Turn.

Or maybe, it was the BCB, who got away without being sanctioned despite pulling out so late of the T20 World Cup. Pakistan might think they were the Dhurandhar given how Mohsin Naqvi forced the global body to head down to it's office in Lahore.

The entire scenario plays out perfectly like a dramatic Bollywood movie. It had a good buildup, a solid climax, and a happy ending for all parties involved. However, amidst all the chaos, the movie ensured that Cricket's rise as a Global sport takes a hit 10 years back and who knows, 10 years down the lane, we might be in for Dhurandhar 2.

Till the time that happens, India and Pakistan will continue to entertain cricket fans in this year's T20 World Cup. Both teams have played a game each in the tournament so far, sniffing defeats closely and would want to rectify their mistakes before facing off on February 15th, 2026 in Colombo.
