They say catches win you matches, and that has been rightly portrayed since the inception of the game. One can score truckloads of runs, but if the fielders are not supportive, and they consistently drop easy catches, then it allows a breathing space for the opposition side.
This is exactly what the Punjab Kings have been feeling in the IPL 2026, as one of their key members has turned into a liability on the field. Shashank Singh might be a great finisher and a brilliant asset for the table-topping Punjab, but when it comes to fielding, he is their weak link.
In the ongoing IPL 2026 match between Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings, DC opener KL Rahul gave a golden chance to the PBKS side, as he miscued his attempted shot towards Shashank, but as has been the trend, he missed a sitter at the boundary ropes.
Preity Zinta in disbelief as Shashank makes mess of a simple catch
KL Rahul is an important wicket for any team, and when he gives you a chance, you should pounce on it. Arshdeep Singh bowled a slightly shorter delivery as KL Rahul pulled it towards Shashank at deep square leg, who spilled an easy catch, and allowed the DC opener a lifeline.
Arshdeep, the bowler who had created an opportunity, was in anger, and Preity Zinta, the team owner, had a similar reaction, as she was left shell-shocked and was in disbelief at what she had just seen.
The PBKS team owner was expecting Shashank to grab the simple chance, but when the catch was dropped, it left her in shock.
Not only Zinta, but PBKS coach, Ricky Ponting was furious as he kept his hands on his face, and he couldn't believe the poor fielding standards set by his player.
As a result, Shashank was taken off the field, and punished for his poor fielding in the DC Vs PBKS IPL match.

Not the first time Shashank made mistakes in IPL 2026
This is not the first time Shashank Singh has made mistakes on the field. It was in the PBKS Vs LSG when the fielder made costly errors, and that led to both Shreyas Iyer, and Ponting getting furious with him.
On the 5th ball of the LSG’s 18th over, Aiden Markram miscued a shot in the air, and the PBKS fielder spilled an easy catch as the ball crossed the boundary ropes.

In total, he had a horrendous day as a fielder as the PBKS player dropped three simple chances, and gave a glimmer of hope to the LSG team as they were aiming to get closer to the Punjab target.
In the aftermath of the incident, captain Shreyas Iyer hid Shashank’s face with his cap, and Ponting was seen giving a pep talk to him.
Predicting Shashank's future as a PBKS fielder
After dropping KL Rahul near the boundary ropes, the Punjab Kings camp was furious, and he was punished as the team management took him off the field in anger.
Not only a catch, but he also failed to stop a certain boundary, and as a result, expect the Punjab Kings team to use him as an impact sub from the next game onwards. He still remains a valuable finisher for the team, but as a fielder, Shashank has dropped too many simple chances.
