Punjab Kings extended their winning streak against Lucknow Super Giants as the Shreyas Iyer-led side registered a comfortable 54 run win to top the table. It was a near-perfect match, but Shashank Singh was the only exception, who had a forgetful day in the field.
Talking about the match, Punjab Kings, batting first, put a massive 254/7 on the board. In reply, LSG came close and amassed 200 runs, resulting in a big win for the last year's finalist. The Rishabh Pant-led side could have been restricted to a much lower total, but Shashank Singh had a terrible day in the field.
Shashank Singh's School-Boy Error Frustrates PBKS
On the 5th ball of the 18th over, Aiden Markram played a shot high in the air. Shashank could have easily caught the ball, but he compltely missed it. It was a rare scene because the ball landed directly on the boundary rope, whereas Shashank thought the ball would land a few metres away.
The entire Punjab Kings camp was upset and shocked by that effort. Arshdeep Singh expressed his frustration, while, Ricky Ponting, who is Punjab Kings' head coach, got out of his chair to blast the PBKS batter.
Shashank Singh Drops 3 Catches For Punjab Kings
Shashank Singh had a decent day with the bat as he scored quickfire 17 (6). However, he had an equally poor day in the field. Notably, not just one but the PBKS all-rounder three catches during LSG's batting.

He first dropped an easy catch which didn't quite get any reaction. The boundary goof-up was his second missed chance of the day. Things went bad to worse when Shashank Singh dropped Mukul Choudhary's catch. After his third dropped catch, the entire camp burst into laughter as they couldn't believe what they just saw.
Shashank was in disbelief, but Shreyas Iyer, alongside with Musheer Khan and other players on the bench were laughing at Singh's poor fielding effort.

After the match, in a light-hearted moment, both teams lined up for the post-match ritual. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer was in fun mood and asked Shashank Singh to cover his face with a cap to avoid meeting his teammates.
Ricky Ponting too took it in a light manner and hugged Shashank with a smile.
Shashank Singh's IPL 2026 So Far
Talking about Shashank Singh's numbers in IPL 2026, then he has just scored 51 runs in four innings. However, he is not entirely at fault, because PBKS's top-order has been so good this season that the middle-order remains untested.
Nonetheless, the 34-year-old has delivered whenever asked to. Further, he has also impressed with the ball and has picked up three wickets in two matches.
