The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a major remark on the claims that it fined the Pakistan team following their disappointing exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Earlier reports circulated on social media and multiple news outlets, that PCB has fined the Pakistan Team approximately PKR 5 million for the early elimination.
But recently, PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir confirmed that no fines were imposed on any of the players.
Aamir Mir confirms 'No Fines' were imposed on Pakistan
In a statement to Hindustan Times Digital, Aamir Mir cleared the air, asserting that no such decision was made by the PCB. The reports suggesting that the entire squad was penalised for underperforming during the World Cup, specifically after Pakistan's loss to India, were false.
According to Aamir Mir, the PCB had never considered such punitive measures, and there was no official action taken against the players.
“No such decision was ever taken by the PCB. It was all social media gossip. There is no such precedence or provision,” he confirmed on Saturday afternoon (Hindustan Times Digital).
It is vital to note that Gaurav Gupta from The Times of India also stated that PCB has not fined any player from the T20 World Cup 2026 (as per Aamir Mir).
Fines were allegedly linked to Pakistan's Poor performance
The controversy began after the 'Men in Green', led by Salman Ali Agha, failed to make it past the Super 8 stage in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026.
Pakistan's group-stage loss to India and a subsequent loss to England compounded the pressure. Despite a narrow win against Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 match, the team's poor net run rate meant they could not qualify for the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time in ICC T20 events.

Earlier reports suggested that the PCB imposed the financial penalties on the players after their defeat to India. These fines were reportedly viewed as a reaction to Pakistan's failure to meet expectations rather than any disciplinary issue.
Pakistan's early exit from T20 World Cup sparked backlash against PCB
Pakistan's early exit from the tournament had already caused frustration and disappointment among fans and former cricketers. The team’s poor performance also raised questions about the leadership and coaching staff.
Team’s poor performance raised intense scrutiny of senior players like Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Afridi. Several former players criticized the team for their underwhelming performances and inability to perform under pressure at ICC events.
Adding fuel to the fire, former players like Younis Khan urged the Pakistan squad to stand up against this, emphasising that no player should be penalized.
“If it’s confirmed, then it’s not right. Back in 2003, Rashid Latif received a notice from the PCB that match fees and allowances would be reduced. Some players took a stand, and the decision had to be reversed,” he said.
“The players now have to take a stand. If they do, then they wouldn’t be fined,” he added, urging the team not to accept penalties without question.
Despite the PCB's denial of the fine reports, the team's early exit from the T20 World Cup continues to raise questions about the future of Pakistan cricket. It is important to note that currently the 'Men in Green' is playing a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
