Pakistan Star lose cool - (Source: X.com)
Nothing seems to be going right for Pakistan cricket as the Men in Green have hit a new low post T20 World Cup 2026 exit. The Salman Ali Agha-led side’s hunt for the silverware continues, and it has been nine years since Pakistan’s last ICC trophy.
Things are not right at the domestic level, and the PCB eyes to correct things at the grassroots level. In an attempt to unearth young talents, the Mohsin Naqvi-led board organised the National T20 Cup, which is currently underway from March 7 to March 18, 2026.
8 teams will play multiple matches against different regions, and all games are scheduled daily. The top 4 teams in the points table advance.
Sialkot Region Struggles Against Karachi Region Blues
As mentioned above, four games are scheduled every day. On the opening night, the first three matches saw the team batting second registering simple wins. However, the scenario changed for the last game of the night, where Sialkot Region locked horns against Karachi Region Blues.
Karachi, batting first, put 201 runs on the board. In reply, the Usama Mir-led side had victory in sight, but Sialkot tumbled for just 161 runs.
Hopes were set on Mirza Baig and Abdullah Shafique. However, the batters failed to meet the modern demands of the game. Abdullah Shafique scored 28 (15), while Mirza Baig departed early for 3 (8).
Abdullah Shafique Clashes With Commentator
Following the match, Abdullah Shafique interacted with the commentator, and he also lost his cool when asked about his approach. The commentator slammed Shafique for not sticking at one end and for throwing his wicket away.

In reply, Shafique slammed the commentator and stated that he tried to catch up with the aggressive intent and failed. He also urged the presenter to turn into a coach and then impart some knowledge. The Pakistan opener also took a funny dig at the commentator and stated ‘What do you want? Should I Bat Till the Next Day?’. Here is how the conversation went ahead.
Commentator: There were expectations from you and Hassan Nawaz. Don’t you think you should have held up one end?
Abdullah Shafique: "You should have been a coach. If I held up one end, was I supposed to keep playing until tomorrow?"
Abdullah Shafique Eyeing Pakistan Return
Abdullah Shafique made his Pakistan debut in 2020 but has now fallen out of scheme of things. His last appearance for Pakistan came in October 2025 when he played against South Africa.
Shafique had scored 106 runs in four innings, averaging just 26.50. Following that series, Pakistan opted for other options such as Saim Ayub in the opening slot. Nonetheless, Shafique can eye a T20 or ODI return as Pakistan have dropped Saim Ayub and Babar Azam from the ODI squad for upcoming Bangladesh series.
