The Indian cricket team had a memorable outing in the T20 World Cup, finishing as the winner of the competition. 

In a high-voltage final in Ahmedabad, India annihilated New Zealand by 96 runs, securing their third T20 World Cup trophy. The co-hosts achieved multiple milestones with the phenomenal title, etching their names in the history books.

After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner invited the Indian cricket team to bat first. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side hammered their opponents to all parts of the ground en route to a massive total of 255 runs. 

Although captain Suryakumar fell for a golden duck, blistering half-centuries from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma helped India set a monumental target for the BlackCaps. 

In response, Mitchell Santner's men crumbled and lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually getting bowled out for 159 runs. The resounding victory placed the Indian cricket team in the history books, as the Men in Blue became the first-ever side to defend their T20 World Cup title.

After participating in the T20 World Cup, the Indian players will feature in the IPL 2026 season. The 19th edition of the competition kicks off on March 28, a development which the broadcasters shared on the day of T20 World Cup final.

Thus, the members of the Indian cricket team will be busy in the IPL, which runs until May 31. After that, the hosts will play a one-off Test and an ODI series against Afghanistan on home soil. 

India Vs Afghanistan 2026

The one-off Test between India and Afghanistan will be played from June 6 to 10 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in New Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the ODI matches will take place in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai. 

India tour of England 2026

The Indian cricket team schedule after T20 World Cup suggests that the Men in Blue will travel to England following the multi-format home series against Afghanistan. The Indian side will cross swords against their English counterparts across five T20Is, followed by a three-match ODI series. 

Chester-le-Street will host the T20I series opener, while the subsequent matches will be played in Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton. Meanwhile, the Edgbaston, Cardiff, and Lord's will host the three ODI matches between India and England. 

India to face Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and West Indies in August-September
