Jasprit Bumrah returns | PC- X.com
In a massive development, the BCCI has announced a strong 15-member Test squad for the Sri Lanka series. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and prolific all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have made a return into the Indian side after missing the previous assignment.
Under Shubman Gill, it will be India’s only second overseas Test series, previously able to draw 2-2 in England.
Notably, India are set to tour Sri Lanka after a long gap of nearly 10 years.
Ravindra Jadeja's back, Jasprit Bumrah subject to fitness for SL Tests
The India vs Sri Lanka Tests will mark the return of stalwarts like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who were absent from the Indian dressing room during the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
Jadeja will head the spin attack alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and all-rounder Saransh Jain, who has earned his maiden India callup. However, India’s modern-day fast-bowling great Bumrah has been added to the squad, but his selection is subject to fitness.

The 32-year-old played the first two ODIs in England before getting his knee injured before the Lord’s match. He underwent scans in the UK, and he will report at CoE on Thursday for final checks.
BCCI provides fresh update on Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar
Meanwhile, batter Sai Sudharsan is another player in the squad whose selection is under the 'subject to fitness' condition. The southpaw injured himself during the unofficial Tests in Sri Lanka, where he racked up 332 runs in four innings, including two centuries.
“Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability will be subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI COE,” the BCCI said via a press release.
All-rounder Washington Sundar, who pulled his hamstring in England, has not been named in the Test squad. However, as per the BCCI's press release, he might return for the second Test.
"Washington Sundar was not available for selection for the first Test," the BCCI added.
India's batting unit boasts depth despite fitness concern
The national selectors have picked a strong batting line-up, with KL Rahul touring Sri Lanka for Tests for the third time. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are other big names, but all three of them are touring the Islands for the first time.
Dhruv Jurel is picked as a backup wicketkeeper for Pant, but the right-hander will likely bat at number 6. Meanwhile, a headache for the team management will be Sai Sudharsan’s fitness, but if he fails to prove his fitness, Devdutt Padikkal could replace Sudharsan at number 3.
Notably, the Karnataka batter slammed 173 runs in three innings during the IND A vs SL A unofficial Tests.
