Bumrah slammed by Gavaskar on air [Source: AP]
Jasprit Bumrah is the best in the business when it comes to T20 cricket, but there are days and competitions when even the best fade away. This is exactly what’s happening with the Mumbai Indians pacer, who simply cannot catch a break, and has looked a pale shadow of his former self.
Throughout the ongoing IPL campaign, batters have taken Bumrah to the cleaners, as his confidence is at an all-time low. He has taken just 3 wickets in nine IPL 2026 games, and this is one of the reasons why the Mumbai Indians have failed in the ongoing IPL.
The right-arm pacer had a chance to redeem himself against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, but the pacer committed an unacceptable error, and was heavily criticised by the commentators.
Gavaskar slams Bumrah for "NO-BALL" error vs LSG
Bumrah conceded 31 runs in his first two overs against LSG as Nicholas Pooran and Mitch Marsh took him to the cleaners. However, Bumrah returned with a new zeal for his third over, and it didn’t go according to his plans.
On the third delivery of the 14th over, Bumrah was sharp in his action as he bowled the perfect length ball, and LSG batter, Himmat Singh edged it to the wicket-keeper. The entire stadium, and the MI players started to celebrate, before reality hit them hard.
The siren rang, and it was clear that Bumrah had bowled a no-ball as Himmat Singh got a lifeline. This was unacceptable from an experienced campaigner, and Sunil Gavaskar, who was on commentary, criticised Bumrah for not keeping his foot behind the line.
“This is not acceptable, you are a professional cricketer, wide, I can understand but bowling no-ball, it’s clearly not acceptable," furious Gavaskar blasts Bumrah.
8 no-balls for Bumrah in IPL 2026
Nothing has been going right for Bumrah in the ongoing IPL. He was India’s star in the T20 World Cup, but since then, his bowling speed has gone down, and the zip is also missing.
In the same over, the legendary pacer bowled another no-ball, and created an unwanted feat as this was his 8th no-ball of the IPL 2026. This was his 3rd no ball of the match, and second in the same over, as he made batters' lives easy.
However, despite making schoolboy errors, the pacer only conceded 6 runs and not a single boundary was scored by the batters. Interestingly, the no-ball proved costly as Himmat Singh smashed 40 off 31 and helped LSG post 228/5.

Bumrah's poor IPL 2026 at a glance
The 32-year-old was supposed to be the Mumbai Indians’ biggest weapon in the IPL 2026, and the team was heavy favourites to clinch the IPL trophy. Bumrah was Hardik Pandya’s trump card, but MI’s biggest weapon has so far failed to deliver the goods.
In 10 IPL 2026 matches, the Indian pacer has taken just 3 wickets, with an average of 95, and an economy of 8.61 (before the LSG game).
In fact, the ongoing IPL is Bumrah’s worst season in terms of the economy rates. The batters have attacked him right from ball one, and this has disrupted his bowling rhythm.
