In a major update, fresh information has come out about Chennai Super Kings legend MS Dhoni ahead of the upcoming match between CSK and Delhi Capitals. The match is scheduled to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, April 12.
Notably, CSK have had a very poor start in IPL 2026. The team has lost three matches in a row, which has put them under early pressure.
First, they lost to Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in Guwahati. After that, they faced a five-wicket defeat at home against Punjab Kings. Then, they suffered a heavy 43-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
As a result, CSK are currently at the bottom of the points table. Therefore, the team is looking for a strong comeback in the upcoming matches.
MS Dhoni missed initial CSK matches
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has missed the first three matches of the season due to a calf injury. Even though he attended training sessions and practiced batting in the nets, he did not travel with the team. This step was taken to ensure proper recovery and to follow medical guidelines.
In addition, the franchise has clearly stated that his return will not be rushed. Instead, they want him to regain full fitness before stepping onto the field again.
MS Dhoni likely to miss CSK vs DC
However, there is disappointing news for fans. Cricbuzz reports suggest that Dhoni is very likely to miss the upcoming match against Delhi Capitals. At present, he is still undergoing rehabilitation, and he may need at least another week to become match-fit.
Therefore, the team management is focusing on his long-term fitness rather than rushing him back too soon.

MS Dhoni likely to return against KKR
On the positive side, there is hope that Dhoni could return for the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which will take place on April 14. However, this will depend on whether he clears the fitness test.
So far, he has stayed in Chennai and has not travelled for away matches in Guwahati and Bengaluru. He was also not present during CSK’s home game at Chepauk, which raised questions about his fitness.
Interestingly, a recent report from Rohit Juglan has given fans some hope. Earlier, Dhoni was not seen jogging during recovery sessions. Now, on April 9, the former CSK captain was seen running, which shows improvement in his condition. Notably, this development indicates that he is slowly getting closer to full fitness.
At the same time, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that there is no fixed timeline for Dhoni’s return. He mentioned that the recovery process is still ongoing and will take time.
“MS is undergoing rehab and it will take some time. We can't say how much time,” he said.
To sum up, MS Dhoni is making steady progress in his recovery. Even though he is expected to miss the next match, there is still a good chance of his return in the following game.
