Chennai Super Kings have got off to the worst possible start to IPL 2026. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side are missing MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis as the Men in Yellow have lost their first three games.
For the unversed, MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis were ruled out of the first few games of IPL 2026 due to side strain injuries. In their absence, CSK suffered embarrassing defeats against RR, PBKS, and arch-rivals RCB.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Under Pressure In MS Dhoni, Dewald Brevis' Absence
It is not an usual sight for Chennai Super Kings to see three defeats in the start of tournament. Ruturaj Gaikwad is under a lot of pressure as he is missing MS Dhoni's guidance. There are demands of sacking Gaikwad as the captain and hand over the leadership to Sanju Samson. Thus, the Maharashtra-based cricketer need MS Dhoni to regain full fitness quickly.

Dewald Brevis, on the other hand, took IPL 2025 by storm and his explosive intent is something CSK are missing at the top. Notably, Brevis scored 225 runs in six innings for the Men in Yellow last season.
CSK Drop Update On MS Dhoni And Dewald Brevis For DC Match
CSK will now face Delhi Capitals at the Chepauk Stadium on Friday, April 10. There were reports that Brevis has been declared fit and will return to action against the Capitals. For MS Dhoni, he too was reported to undergo a fitness assessment test, hinting at an earlier return than expected.
In the latest events, the Yellow Army have dealt a heavy blow because CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that MS Dhoni won't be available for selection against DC as reported by Cricbuzz.
"MS is undergoing rehab and it will take some time. We can't say how much time," said Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Dewald Brevis Doubtful vs DC
Another blow for the fans is that the CSK CEO refused to confirm Brevis' availability as well. He stated that Brevis is near full-fitness, but isn't sure if he will feature against Delhi Capitals or not.
"We are hoping he will be available for the next game, but that will depend on how he progresses. We have a few days before the next game," Kasi remarked.
CSK's Performance Without MS Dhoni
Before IPL 2025, MS Dhoni missed just 5 games for CSK in 17 years. However, this year, he has already missed 3 matches, taking his tally to 8 matches. Interesintgly, in MS Dhoni's absence, the Men in Yellow have won just a solitary match.
For the unversed, Dhoni missed his first match for CSK in 2010 against Delhi Capitals and the Men in Yellow won that game. Since, then, MS Dhoni has missed seven matches and the five-time winners have lost every match.
