Punjab Kings batter, Prabhsimran Singh, has been associated with the IPL franchise since the 2019 season, and he has been closely working with the team during their darkest hours. Before the 2025 season, the Punjab Kings last reached an IPL final in 2014, and since then, they have faced disappointment in almost every campaign.

Prabhsimran, the aggressive batter, has also witnessed the ups and downs as he has played with the franchise for the last 7 years, and during this period, the team has struggled to maintain its identity as new teams came and dominated the league with their approach.

Just like the team from Punjab, Prabhsimran Singh found it tough to find an identity, as it wasn’t until the 2023 season that he finally broke through the playing XI. Since then, his fortunes have turned, as the Punjab batter has become a regular member of the franchise and has dominated the league with his batting.

Since his IPL debut, the 25-year-old has played under numerous Indian captains. He has played alongside some of the legendary IPL captains like KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, but interestingly, he Prabhsimran snubbed both of them and named his favourite PBKS skipper of all-time.

The right-handed opener lavished praise on the current leader of the side, Shreyas Iyer, as he neglected the likes of KL Rahul, Dhawan, and even Sam Curran (who briefly captained the franchise), and picked Iyer as the best captain he has worked with.

"There is clarity from the team, the coach and the captain to go for it as clearly as we can. If we have to hit, then we have to go for it. It is not that difficult to reach 250 plus."

"When he was appointed (Iyer) as captain of the Punjab Kings and when our player-captain meeting happened, he gave me clarity and told me to play like I want and that he was seeing me as a senior player.

"I feel he's the best captain [I have played under] because if you haven't scored for a few matches, he'll come and talk to you, tell you there's no stress. There's so much backing that you can show what you're capable of."

Shreyas Iyer broke PBKS jinx in 2025

Before IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings last reached an IPL finals in 2014, when captain George Bailey inspired them to an historic campaign. Since then, many captains have tried, but none managed to help the franchise reach the IPL finals.

It wasn’t until Iyer was appointed captain that he changed the complexion of the team. Under his guidance, the team played a fearless brand of cricket, as they overcame all the odds to enter the IPL finals.

The team suffered a heartbreak as they lost vs RCB, but Iyer received praise for his handling of the team and how he instilled a winning mentality amongst his team members.

Prabhsimran's best IPL season came under Iyer

Up until the 2025 season, Prabhsimran failed to cross the 400-run barrier in the IPL. He always had the potential, but the batter was not getting that one breakthrough season. That breakthrough came when Iyer arrived at the franchise.

The explosive batter was given the license to play an aggressive brand of cricket, and the 25-year-old didn’t disappoint as he smacked runs for fun, and ended the campaign with 549 runs in 17 matches, with a strike rate of 160.

He, alongside fellow opener Priyansh Arya, tormented the opposition bowlers as the team reached the finals after 11 long years.
