Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni was ruled out of the first three matches due to a calf injury.
Earlier, CSK had revealed that Dhoni would be out of the IPL 2026 for the first two weeks of the tournament. Therefore, it was speculated that Dhoni would make his comeback in the fifth group-stage match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

CSK fast-track MS Dhoni's comeback as group-stage exit looms
After three successive defeats in the IPL 2026, the Super Kings have become desperate to open their account in the points table.
Despite being at the twilight of his career, MS Dhoni is undoubtedly the biggest icon in the CSK IPL 2026 squad, and his return could certainly strengthen their team in the competition.
The Super Kings understand the value Dhoni still brings to the table as a finisher and a wicketkeeper. Therefore, they have decided to prepone the MS Dhoni IPL 2026 comeback date on one condition.
According to a report by Express Sports, CSK have arranged a fitness test for Dhoni ahead of their fourth match against Delhi Capitals.
If the talismanic cricketer passes the fitness test, the MS Dhoni IPL 2026 comeback date will be preponed to April 11, the day the Super Kings are scheduled to lock horns with Delhi Capitals.
Dewald Brevis injury update: When will South Africa batter return to CSK playing XI?
Apart from revealing the MS Dhoni IPL 2026 comeback date, the report also sheds light on Dewald Brevis, who has also missed three straight matches for the Super Kings.
The explosive South African batter sustained a side strain during one of CSK's pre-IPL practice sessions and hence was sidelined from the first three fixtures.
However, in an encouraging sign for the five-time IPL champions, Brevis travelled to Bengaluru with the CSK IPL 2026 squad members and was seen practising with his teammates hours before the RCB encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
As the Super Kings have their next match after a five-day gap, Brevis is expected to fully recover and re-enter the CSK playing XI vs Delhi Capitals.
In his absence, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad and Matt Henry have played as CSK's overseas players in the IPL.
So, it will be interesting to see whom they leave out, apart from the out-of-form 14.5 Cr buy Kartik Sharma, from their playing XI when Dhoni and Brevis re-enter the team.
