Lucknow Super Giants during IPL 2025 (PC - afp.com)
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have already started their preparation ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), with captain Rishabh Pant seen leaner during the team's pre-season sessions.
Lucknow Super Giants will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
LSG might not start the season as favourites, but the Rishabh Pant-led side has all the ingredients to lift the maiden silverware in 2026. Although the franchise is top-heavy as far as foreign recruits are concerned, which is best suited for T20s, they also have players who are in the twilight of their careers.
Ahead of the IPL 2026, let us have a look at the LSG players who could retire from the league at least after this season.
1. Mohammed Shami
Aged at 35 years, Mohammed Shami found a new home with the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the mini-auction last year, when the Sunrisers Hyderabad traded the Indian fast bowler for INR 10 crore.
Shami, who is renowned for his seam presentation, last played for India during the 2025 Champions Trophy triumph. Since then, the star pacer has been out of favour in the Indian fold as well.
Last year, Shami had one of his worst seasons in the IPL by statistical standards. While representing the Orange Army, he played nine matches to snap just six wickets at an economy of 11.23 (his worst in any IPL season).
Shami would surely be a part of LSG's first XI, considering the inexperience in their bowling attack, but he surely would be one of the IPL Retirement Candidates.

2. Mitchell Marsh
In IPL 2025, Mitchell Marsh turned out to be a revelation opening the innings along with Aiden Markram. The Australian T20I captain scored 627 runs at a Herculean strike rate of 163.70, with his best score in the league being 117 runs, but played the whole season as an impact player.
However, things haven't been as planned for the all-rounder. Marsh has been struggling with form to the point that he was dropped from the Test squad after a poor showing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
Marsh also missed the initial matches for Australia during their failed campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Although he slammed two successive half-centuries in as many games in the ICC event, IPL 2026 might be Marsh's last dance, with players like Matthew Breetzke and Josh Inglis beating on his head from LSG's current squad, making him an IPL retirement contender.
3. Anrich Nortje
Anrich Nortje and injuries go hand in hand. LSG acquired the services of the South African paceman for INR 2 crore during the mini-auction last December. However, the right-arm seamer has just been a mere shadow of his prime best.
He might have had a brilliant season for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 2025-26, taking 18 wickets at 13 apiece.
But, since winning the SA20 with the Sunrisers, he has only struggled for form. Nortje went wicketless in the two series against India and the West Indies prior to the 2026 T20 World Cup. In the T20 World Cup, he took three wickets but was asked to face low-ranking sides Zimbabwe and the UAE. All in all, IPL 2026 could become Anrich Nortje's last season, making him an IPL retirement condi.
