It was a shambolic performance from an inexperienced Pakistani side against Bangladesh in the recently concluded ODI series. The Men in Green lost 1-2, but the series scoreline doesn’t reveal the reality. The visitors were outplayed in two of the three matches, and they looked completely clueless.
Several Pakistani stars underperformed, allowing the Tigers to snatch a series win. While the likes of Salman Agha delivered the goods and was the lone warriors of the side, others simply failed as Pakistan couldn’t beat Bangladesh.
With yet another series loss and yet another embarrassment, Pakistan selectors might take some harsh calls, and there could be players who might be dropped from the ODI setup. Here are 3 such players who could face the wrath of the selectors after the Bangladesh drubbing.
1) Mohammad Rizwan
Pakistan keeper, Mohammad Rizwan, was one of the senior players on the tour of Bangladesh; however, he couldn’t deliver the goods as the Tigers exposed his weakness in all three ODI matches.
Even when he scored decent runs, it came at a low strike rate, which hardly troubled the opposition team.

| Strike rate | 69.88 |
(Rizwan in ODI series vs Bangladesh)
- Being a senior, and having ample experience, Rizwan was expected to lead the path for the youngsters, but the keeper-batter failed as he could only accumulate 58 runs, with an average of 19, and a strike-rate of just 69.88.
- He hardly troubled the Bangladesh bowlers and built pressure when at the crease. Pakistan dropped him from the T20I squad, right before the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, and with Ghazi Ghouri available as his replacement, the team could take a harsh call by dropping him from the ODIs.

2) Shamyl Hussain
For some reason, Pakistan selectors thought that including Shamyl Hussain in the ODI setup was a good idea. Moreover, despite playing him in the first two ODIs against the Tigers, the batter was demoted at number 3, which is not his usual batting position.
In domestic cricket, Hussain opens the batting, but against Bangladesh, he was pushed down the order, where he clearly lacked the technique and the temperament to trouble anyone. His stats was dismal, and the player was also dropped from the third ODI.
| Criterion | Data |
| Matches | 2 |
| Runs | 10 |
| Average | 5.00 |
| Strike rate | 34.48 |
(Hussain in ODIs vs Bangladesh)
- Just 10 runs in two matches, with an average of 5, and a shambolic strike rate of 34, reflect how Hussain performed in the ODIs. The batter wasn’t clearly ready for the international stage when he was picked, and perhaps the selectors should urge the player to go back to domestic cricket, hone his skills, and then make a comeback.
3) Faheem Ashraf
When a T20I player is asked to play ODI games, disaster happens, and this is what happened when Pakistan included Faheem Ashraf in the ODI scheme of things. As an all-rounder, he is hardly used properly by the Pakistan captain.
In the ODIs vs Bangladesh, Faheem bowled 10 overs in the combined three matches, and this was when the conditions suited seam bowlers. Moreover, with the bat, the batter scored 60 runs in three matches, with a strike rate of 73.17.
Instead of a bits and pieces all-rounder who is hardly utilised by Pakistan, the team could bring in a specialist batter or a specialised bowler.
Conclusion
The T20 World Cup Super 8 exit led to several players getting dropped, and expect the same to happen as Pakistan has lost yet another series, this time against Bangladesh.
Several players underperformed, and it clearly showcases that they don’t belong in the ODI scheme of things. By dropping the likes of Rizwan, Hussain, and Faheem, Pakistan can rebuild their team and include genuine match-winners in the squad.
