The Pakistan Super League 2026 will be held under strict security measures, with all matches played behind closed doors. The decision was confirmed by Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, during a press conference on Sunday.

Originally planned across six cities, the tournament will now take place only in Karachi and Lahore due to security concerns and a nationwide fuel shortage.

Venues in Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi have been removed from the schedule. Despite the venue changes, the match fixtures remain unchanged.

PSL to begin without fans as PCB cancels opening ceremony

The tournament will begin on March 26 with a match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen and conclude on May 3 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The PCB has also cancelled the opening ceremony, citing safety and logistical issues. Mohsin Naqvi explained that limited fuel supplies would make it difficult for fans to travel between cities, leading to the decision to restrict movement and ensure safety.

“PSL is our international brand. There are many international players involved. We cannot cancel the tournament. We have decided to go on with the tournament. It will start on March 26. It wouldn't be easy to host 25000-30000 people. Until and unless the crisis ends, there would be no crowds,” Mohsin Naqvi told reporters.

Terror threat looms over PSL 2026

In a serious development related to PSL 2026, a commander linked to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has reportedly confirmed issuing a warning to PSL international players.

The group has threatened to disrupt the PSL 2026 and urged overseas participants to withdraw due to security risks.

Speaking to this newspaper (The Sunday Guardian), the commander said the message was meant as a direct advisory to international cricket boards. He warned them not to send their players to Pakistan, adding that the group would not take responsibility if any harm came to them.

"We want to advise the relevant cricket boards not to send their players to Pakistan. If something happens to them, it will not be our responsibility. We have already warned,” he said.

It is important to note that if the PSL international players still travel and play in PSL 2026, the commander made a very clear statement - “We will do whatever is in our capacity, but we will not let the match happen,” he said.

On being asked again for clarification, he confirmed that the group aims to prevent matches from taking place and stop players from participating.

“Yes, we will do our best to ensure that the matches do not happen and the players do not play.”

It is vital to note that the newspaper has also contacted major cricket boards, including the England and Wales Cricket Board, New Zealand Cricket, and Cricket Australia, seeking their response to the warning. However, no official statements had been received as of now.
