The PSL 2026 season has been struck with a major controversy within the opening weekend of the tournament itself. The incident involves Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah and a certain controversial tweet he ‘allegedly’ wrote against Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) now seem to be raining down hard on Naseem, even though the young paceman has distanced himself from the tweet by claiming that his social media account was “hacked” at the time.

Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB issues show-cause notice to Naseem Shah

The PCB, led by politician-cum-cricket administrator Mohsin Naqvi, has issued a show-cause notice to Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah. The notice was issued to the speedster for “violating the terms of the PCB central contract” as well as the “media policy and regulations”.

The young speedster is now reportedly required to provide a response within the stipulated time period. The report also states that upon receipt and the review of Naseem Shah’s response, the PCB will be expected to make a decision if any further action will be taken against him in line with the regulations.

What did Naseem Shah allegedly wrote?

The PCB shared a special video on social media, where the board officials can be seen greeting Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz before the opening match of the PSL 2026 season. She was also greeted by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with players from the Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise also meeting her.

However, the special treatment granted to the politician seemingly irked many in Pakistan, with national fast bowler Naseem Shah allegedly voicing his opinion over the matter.

Responding to the social media post of the PCB, the express paceman wrote “Why is she treated like the queen at lords?”

While the post has since been deleted, his remarks were enough to stir a major controversy. Moreover, Naseem has even distanced himself from the post, alleging that his social media account was “hacked” at the time.

In any case, the cricketer did receive much praise from several Pakistan fans for speaking up, with many hailing his remarks as a rare show of candour against perceived preferential treatment for the nation’s politicians. However, many fans have also deemed the post unnecessary, with some calling it the end of his professional playing career.

Naseem Shah to play for RawalPindiZ in PSL 2026

As of now, Naseem Shah is still in line to play the PSL 2026 season for the RawalPindiZ franchise. The young fast bowler was acquired by RawalPindiZ for a staggering sum of PKR 8.65 crore at the PSL 2026 auction, thus making him the most expensive buy of the bidding event last month in February.

As per the schedule, the RawalPindiZ team will be taking on Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi in their opening match of the PSL 2026 season. The match will be hosted by the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, March 28 and the action will commence from 3:00 PM IST onwards.
