The Pakistan Super League was supposed to be the second biggest T20 franchise league after the IPL, but the ongoing season has proven one thing: the entire PSL is a mess, and things need a quick turnaround. From matches getting abandoned to no crowd allowed, the PSL 2026 excitement has faded in just 6 days.

Apart from the off-field controversies that have surrounded the league, the on-field controversies are no less, and Sunday’s PSL encounter between the Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings showcased a moment that no PSL fan would love to remember.

Fakhar Zaman charged with ball-tampering allegations

During the high-octane clash between rivals Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, the Lahore opener, Fakhar Zaman, was charged by the PSL with allegations of ball-tampering in the closing stages of the Karachi Kings’ innings.

The incident occurred in the final stages of a tricky run chase when the on-field umpires penalised the Shaheen Afridi-led Qalandars five crucial runs, and also ordered the ball to be changed.

Umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi, along with television umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed, filed a case against Fakhar, as the PSL governing body had enough evidence against the opener.

Fakhar was suspended for two PSL 2026 matches by the PCB, and the batter requested a full disciplinary hearing under the PCB Code of Conduct. The hearing was conducted by match referee, Roshan Mahanama, and Qalandars captain, Shaheen, and team director, Sameen Rana was also present in the meeting.

Fakhar Zaman rejects Mohsin Naqvi's harsh decision

PCB is run by Mohsin Naqvi, and his decision remains the final call, as Fakhar was suspended by his governing body for ball-tampering. However, on Wednesday, the left-handed Lahore Qalandars batter filed an appeal against his suspension, as he was found guilty of a Level 3 breach of the Code of Conduct.

According to reports by Geo News, he was charged under Article 2.14 of the Code, which relates to “changing the condition of the ball in breach of clause 41.3 of the PSL Playing Conditions.

If a player is found guilty of a Level 3 offence for the first time, he either gets a one-match suspension, or a maximum of two games.

However, the opener has now gone against Naqvi’s decision and has filed an appeal against his two-game ban.

Matches Fakhar Zaman could miss if his PSL 2026 ban stays

After last Sunday, Lahore’s next two fixtures are tricky, with the Shaheen-led side taking on Multan Sultans on Friday, April 3, followed by a match against Islamabad United on April 9.

The Qalandars have a big task on their hands if Fakhar misses the next two PSL matches. His onslaught at the top has always been vital for his team’s success, and if Fakhar is unavailable, the team might find it difficult to replace him.

Who can replace Fakhar Zaman in Lahore Qalandars PSL playing XI

Mohammad Naeem has been opening with Fakhar in PSL 2026, and if the left-handed batter is not there, the team can push Abdullah Shafique at the top, and can include Tayyab Tahir in the middle-order.

Shafique has been playing at 3, but for Pakistan, he is a designated opener. Hence, he can switch as an opener, and Tayyab Tahir can play anywhere in the middle-order, and this move won’t weaken the squad.
