PCB engulfed in corruption [Source: AFP]
The Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seems to have been engulfed in yet another corruption case. Quite recently, the board refused to provide the necessary salary details to the nation’s senate.
The PCB has also decided to withhold the information regarding the officials who travelled with the Pakistan team to Sri Lanka for the recently-concluded 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The board, however, has agreed to offer an in-camera briefing for the senate.
PCB refuses to share salary and benefit details with Pakistan politician
As reported by Samaa.tv, the PCB has refused to provide the salary and benefit details of the board officials and selectors with the nation’s senate. The board has described such details as “sensitive and confidential”.
Moreover, the PCB is also refusing to share the list of board officials and individuals who accompanied the Pakistan national team to Sri Lanka for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, once again deeming it confidential.
Earlier, Pakistan Senator Hidayatullah had raised a question regarding salaries and benefits of the PCB selection board and officials. Since then, the cabinet division has informed the senate that the PCB has thoroughly reviewed his request.
PCB claim “safety and security” of personnel as primary reason
When asked to reveal the names of the board officials who travelled with the Pakistan team to Sri Lanka for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the PCB responded that the board intends to keep the confidentiality of such officials and employees.
The board also claimed that they are not giving out the necessary information in a bid to ensure the safety and security of the PCB members. According to the PCB, even sharing the salaries and benefits of the officials could “attracted unwanted attention”.
PCB offer in-camera briefing for senate
The PCB, however, is willing to provide an in-camera briefing to the senate. The cabinet division has stated the same to the senate, claiming that the required information can be shared if the senate wants it in such a manner.
The aforementioned move will help the PCB in keeping any personal details of the board officials private and away from public.
PSL 2026 heads into playoffs territory
Meanwhile, amid the growing scrutiny surrounding the board’s administrative affairs, attention on the cricketing front now shifts to the PSL 2026 season, which is set to enter its decisive playoffs phase.
The Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi franchise finished the league stage at the top of the points table to make it to the first qualifier. They will face second-placed Islamabad United at Karachi’s National Stadium on Tuesday, April 28.
The following day, the Multan Sultans and Hyderabad Kingsmen franchises will be taking on each other in the Eliminator at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The second eliminator and the all-important final will be played on May 1 and May 3 respectively at the same Lahore-based venue.
