Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami broke silence on meeting BCCI selection committee member RP Singh amid the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Shami, who played a pivotal role in Bengal's remarkable performance, met RP Singh during the semifinal against Jammu and Kashmir, sparking rumours of his possible return to the Indian team.
Mohammed Shami was an integral member of the Indian team until the Champions Trophy last year.
Although the experienced speedster bagged nine wickets across five matches in the competition, the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee sidelined him, citing fitness concerns.

Speaking to SportsNext, Mohammed Shami revealed that although it's natural from the fans' perspective to link his conversation with RP Singh directly to his international comeback, the duo also shares a friendly bond apart from a professional relationship.
As Shami disclosed, the selection calls are taken by the entire panel rather than a single member of the committee.
He also highlighted that the BCCI selectors closely monitor every player during the domestic season, so he didn't need to advertise or recommend himself for getting back into the Indian team.
"Selector hona ek alag chiz hai aur humare personal connection bhi hote hain. Personal bhai jaisi baat bhi pehle bhi hain. Zaruri nahi hai ke aap selection ko leke hi baat karen. Unhe kuch kehne ki zarurat nahi hai, domestic me sab log aapko dekh rahe hain. Selection committee hai, but as a human, aap ke rishte bhi sab se hote hain. Aisa nahi hai ke sirf as professional aap kisi se judenge," Shami said.
Mohammed Shami promises India comeback with dream Ranji season
Talking about Shami's performance in the Ranji Trophy, he emerged as one of Bengal's go-to bowlers in the tournament. The right-arm fast bowler scalped 37 wickets in 13 innings at an incredible strike rate of 37.
The seasoned campaigner's consistency spoke volumes for his red-hot form, as he presented a strong case for his potential comeback into the Indian Test side.
Given he has proved match-fitness through rigorous grind at the domestic level, it will be interesting to see whether the BCCI selection panel picks him for India's upcoming assignments in red-ball cricket.
