The Supreme Court of India has sent a notice to Indian pacer Mohammed Shami regarding a domestic violence case filed by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. Notably, the court has asked Mohammed Shami to respond to her latest plea. According to reports from ANI, the matter was taken up on Wednesday.
The case relates to Jahan’s request to transfer ongoing maintenance and related legal proceedings from West Bengal to Delhi. At present, she lives in Delhi with her daughter. Therefore, she has asked the court to move the case to a Delhi court so that she can attend hearings more easily.
Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife request to transfer the case
A bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Manmohan issued the notice after reviewing a fresh petition filed by Hasin Jahan. In her plea, she has requested that all cases pending in West Bengal be transferred to Delhi. These cases also name Shami’s family members.
Jahan’s lawyers informed the court that she moved to Delhi to support her daughter’s education. In addition, she has filed another plea seeking an increase in the monthly maintenance amount.
At present, she receives ₹4 lakh per month. However, she claims that this amount does not match Shami’s income and financial status. Earlier, in November 2025, the court had already sent a notice to Bengal pacer regarding enhanced maintenance. So far, no reply has been filed.
In her latest petition, Jahan stated that traveling frequently to Kolkata for court hearings causes serious financial strain and inconvenience. Since she depends entirely on the maintenance money, repeated travel affects her ability to continue the legal fight.

Hasin Jahan claims financial hardship
On August 25 last year, the Calcutta High Court increased the monthly maintenance to ₹1.5 lakh for Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter. Previously, a trial court had ordered Shami to pay ₹80,000 per month for the child and ₹50,000 for Hasin Jahan.
Jahan has argued that Shami lives a luxurious life. According to an affidavit submitted by him in the high court, his monthly expenses are said to be over ₹1.08 crore. Furthermore, she claims that his total net worth is around ₹500 crore.
In contrast, she is currently unemployed and has no independent source of income to cover daily expenses for herself and her daughter.
According to Hasin Jahan, she married Mohammed Shami on April 7, 2014, following Islamic traditions. Their daughter was born on July 17, 2015. A few years later, their relationship faced serious problems.
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan dispute background
In 2018, Jahan filed a case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. She accused Shami and his family of physical and mental abuse. Her complaint was later registered as a FIR at the Jadavpur Police Station under several sections of the law related to cruelty and assault.
In addition, she approached the court under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code seeking maintenance.
The legal dispute became more intense in August 2019. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Alipore issued an arrest warrant against Shami and his family. Later, a sessions court put a stay on that warrant. This stay continued for nearly four years.
When the high court declined to intervene, the matter reached the Supreme Court. In 2023, the apex court directed the sessions court to complete the proceedings related to the warrant within one month. Meanwhile, Shami has continued to perform strongly in domestic cricket.
In the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season, he took 37 wickets in 13 innings with an economy rate of 2.69. Moreover, his performance included three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul.
