In the last month, Mohammad Amir has taken multiple digs at the Indian side for their performances in the T20 World Cup. He has been critical of how the team has fared in the tournament, and the former Pakistan cricketer never left a chance to insult Indian players live on air.

One of his victims was India’s opener, Abhishek Sharma, who went through a rough patch in the T20 World Cup 2026. The batter registered three successive ducks, and it wasn’t until the finals that he finally delivered the goods for India.

Mohammad Amir's "slogger" statement that triggered Indian fans

Amir was vocal about how Abhishek is not as good as people assume, and before the India vs Pakistan clash in the World Cup, the former Pakistan speedster gave a controversial statement, calling Abhishek a “slogger.”

"Honestly, he's just a slogger. His chances of failure are high. He’s not a technically sound batsman. It’s not difficult to tackle such a batsman if you bowl on the body line. He will also struggle against slow balls," Amir said before the India vs Pakistan match.

The statement triggered the Indian fans and former cricketers, but Amir justified his actions with strong words.

“When it comes to Abhishek, I just said that he doesn't have a defensive game. A player who cannot stop the ball, what else do I call him?” Amir said on the Haarna Mana Hai show. “Just tell me what to call him if he can't come into the line and defend the ball."

Former Pakistan player and expert, Basit Ali, was critical about Amir’s quotes on Abhishek, as he demanded the Pakistan team include “sloggers” in their side for future T20I series.

"Amir said Abhishek Sharma is a slogger. If he is a slogger, then I want to see 3-4 sloggers like Abhishek in Pakistan team. He smashed 92 in powerplay and almost finished the match in powerplay."

Indian legend also slammed Amir for Abhishek Sharma dig

Amir, who repeatedly insulted Abhishek, was slammed by former Indian cricketer R Ashwin. The legendary bowler defended the Indian opener and even hailed him better than Yuvraj.

“You can say anything about Abhishek Sharma’s game, but he is not a slogger. He has one of the most enviable bat swings in cricket, even better than his mentor, Yuvraj Singh. His only guilt is showing intent on every ball,” he said.

Abhishek hits back at Amir with title-winning performance

Abhishek had a horror T20 World Cup as he started the tournament with three successive ducks against the USA, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. He then struggled against South Africa, West Indies, and England as question marks were raised over his place in the side.

However, the southpaw slapped Amir with the performance of a lifetime as he blasted the New Zealand attack in the finale in Ahmedabad. The left-handed batter scored 52 off 21 balls, with a strike rate of 247. His fifty was the fastest by any batter in the T20 World Cup knockouts.

It was his slog approach that worked wonders as the Kiwi attack was decimated inside the powerplay, with India posting a mammoth total in the end.
