List of all unwanted records achieved by Abhishek Sharma [Source: AFP]
It seems like Abhishek Sharma is going through his worst slump in international cricket, and the ongoing T20 World Cup is proof of that. He scored a duck in the opening match against the USA, and the repeat telecast happened against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in Colombo.
Pakistan had a full-proof plan against Abhishek as captain Salman Agha opened the bowling attack for Pakistan. The plan worked perfectly as he played four deliveries and was dismissed for a duck for the second successive game.
This was his 4th duck in the last 6 innings as the opener is no longer reliable and was exposed in the high-octane clash. In the process, he entered quite a few unwanted lists, and achieved some forgettable records.
Batters Dismissed for duck in the first two matches in T20 WCs
- Abhishek Sharma became the third player to achieve this unwanted feat as he joined Ashish Nehra and Bangladesh’s Imrul Kayes to become the third batter to be dismissed for duck in their first two T20 World Cup innings.
The Indian star has only played two matches in T20 World Cup, and is yet to open his account as the wait continues.
Most ducks for India in T20 World Cups
- Ashish Nehra tops the list with 3 ducks, and Abhishek has joined the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Shivam Dube with two ducks to his name.
Nehra sits at the top in this list as well, and Abhishek has entered an unwanted company as he sits with some big names in the list of most ducks in T20 World Cups by an Indian.
Most Ducks for India as Openers in T20Is:
- Rohit Sharma has 10 ducks to his name as an opener in T20Is, while Abhishek has gone past Sanju Samson to become the Indian batter with joint-second most ducks in T20Is (5).
Former India captain, Rohit Sharma occupies the first spot with 10 ducks, and Abhishek has joined forgotten opener, KL Rahul to now occupy the second spot.
How Pakistan trapped Abhishek with brilliantly disguised plan
In his short international career, Abhishek has shown no signs of vulnerability, but heading into the Pakistan game, the batter was short of match practice, and Pakistan had their plan ready for him.
In the Asia Cup 2025 matches, Pakistan opened the bowling with Shaheen Afridi, and he was taken to the cleaners by Abhishek in all games. Hence, the skipper decided to try his luck as he brought himself in the first over of the Indian innings.
An off-break bowler usually gets drift away from a left-handed batter, and Agha foxed the Indian opener as he delivered a tossed-up ball, and Abhishek miscued one towards the mid-on fielder.
The left-handed batter usually loves pace on the ball, and Salman Agha snatched it away from Abhishek as the batter fell in the trap and was dismissed for a duck to give India an early jolt.
