While RCB successfully defended their title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 final, former Australian captain and IPL commenter Michael Clarke later revealed that he was involved in a serious car accident while travelling to the airport after the match.
The dramatic events came just hours after reports emerged that the Gujarat Titans team bus had caught fire due to a suspected electrical short circuit, leaving players and staff stranded for a time.

RCB continued their dominance in the IPL by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision proved successful as RCB's bowlers kept the Gujarat Titans batting lineup under pressure throughout the innings. GT scored 155/8 in their 20 overs.
In response, RCB chased down the target comfortably. Star batter Virat Kohli once again played a match-winning innings, remaining unbeaten on 75 runs from just 42 deliveries.
His knock guided RCB to 161/5 in only 18 overs, helping the franchise secure its second consecutive IPL title.
Michael Clarke Escapes Accident After IPL 2026 Final
The former Australian captain, Michael Clarke, who was part of the IPL 2026 English commentary team, revealed that he was asleep in the front passenger seat when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed into the back of a large semi-trailer truck.
Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, he said the impact was severe and left the front section of the car completely destroyed.
"Interesting trip home, to say the least,” Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. “Let me start by saying thank God for good people in India. That’s why I made it home safely."
“I was asleep. I fell asleep after the game, travelling. Obviously, I wasn’t driving. Then I woke up to virtually the front half of the car being under a truck,” Clarke revealed.

According to Clarke, the driver later explained that the truck's brake lights were not functioning, making it difficult to spot the vehicle ahead in time.
"The driver explained to me that the brake lights on the truck weren't working. So my driver had hit the truck up the backside. Again, it was a big semi-trailer and our car had gone underneath," he said.
He added that the car went partially underneath the truck during the collision.
Michael Clarke Thanks BCCI For Constant Support
Michael Clarke expressed greater concern for the driver, who he believes may have suffered a fracture in his leg during the accident.
"Everyone at the BCCI, everybody there, they've been checking in on him and they've been checking in on me. They've been unreal. So I'm very grateful for that," Michael Clarke said.
Michael Clarke thanked local residents who came forward to help and praised the BCCI officials who checked on following the incident.
