The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season ended on a worrying note for Gujarat Titans (GT) after players and support staff were forced to evacuate their team bus following a short circuit on Sunday night in Ahmedabad.

The incident took place while the squad was travelling back to their hotel after losing the IPL 2026 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Top-Order Collapse Puts Gujarat Titans Under Pressure In IPL Final

Notably, the IPL final itself proved to be a frustrating contest for Gujarat Titans. After being asked to bat first by RCB, Gujarat Titans struggled to build momentum and managed only 155/8 in their 20 overs.

Washington Sundar was the standout performer with an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls, while Nishant Sindhu contributed 20 runs.

Meanwhile, Gujarat’s top-order batters failed to make a significant impact. Captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler were dismissed without crossing the 20-run mark, leaving the middle order under pressure.

On the bowling side, RCB’s attack maintained control throughout the innings. Rasikh Dar Salam claimed three wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood picked up two wickets each.

Virat Kohli Guides RCB To Victory

In response, RCB started strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli. Although Gujarat Titans fought back and reduced RCB to 132/5, Virat Kohli remained calm under pressure.

The star batter scored an unbeaten 75 from 42 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes. His innings guided RCB to a five-wicket victory with two overs remaining.

While Gujarat Titans were already dealing with the disappointment of missing out on the IPL trophy, the short-circuit scare turned their journey back from the stadium into an unexpected ordeal.

Gujarat Titans' Difficult Night Takes Another Turn After IPL 2026 Final Defeat

According to Times of India reports, smoke started spreading inside the bus after a short circuit caused the vehicle to break down.

As a safety measure, all players and staff members immediately got off the bus. The team remained stranded on the road for nearly an hour before alternative arrangements were made.

It is important to note that the bus breakdown was the latest setback in what had been a demanding few days for GT. The team had already faced a hectic travel schedule during the IPL playoffs.

After completing their league-stage matches at home, Gujarat Titans travelled to Dharamsala for Qualifier 1 against RCB. Following that match, they headed to Mullanpur in Punjab for Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals. Soon after securing victory there, the team returned to Ahmedabad for the final.

Flight Disruptions Left GT With Less Than 24 Hours To Prepare

Earlier, weather-related disruptions created difficulties for the Titans. Adverse conditions in north India affected flight operations in Chandigarh, leading to a delay of nearly three hours.

As a result, Gujarat Titans arrived late in Ahmedabad and had less than 24 hours to prepare for the championship clash. Furthermore, the delay forced organisers to postpone the pre-match captains' photoshoot.
