In a recent development, Bangladesh veteran Litton Das is expected to miss the West Indies Test opener on October 28 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Notably, Litton, who last featured in a Test match against Afghanistan this month, was ruled out of the ODI match against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation series.

Litton has been battling a hip injury that he reported during the UAE tri-series, and although he was seen comfortable with the bat in the nets at the BCB Academy premises on Sunday, his participation remains doubtful.

Litton Das has a 50-50 chance of playing BAN vs WI 1st Test

As per a Cricbuzz report, Das is now slowly recovering from his hip injury, but the stiffness is acting as a hindrance to his complete return to the game for Bangladesh.

“There was an inflammation of a gluteal muscle tendon in his hip joint, which ruled him out of the tri-nation series. It has now subsided and the pain has also reduced. However, the BCB medical team continues to work on his recovery,” the report read.

Although Litton Das was fluent with the bat in the nets, a member of the selection committee warned about the condition he is struggling with while underlining the chance of him featuring in the match.

“He is in a state where we cannot say he is available or unavailable for the opening Test against West Indies,” said the selection committee member.

“To be honest, he is 50-50. But we will wait till the end and hope he can recover sufficiently to play the series opener as it's very important for us,” he added.

Litton skips fitness test ahead of West Indies opener due to injury

Notably, as per the same Cricbuzz report, Das still has some muscular weaknesses and is yet to regain full strength. These fitness issues have also prompted the BCB medical team to skip his scheduled test on October 24.

“Litton is able to do his functional training now, but functional training doesn't mean he is 100% fit. 100% is not really needed, basically, if we can at least cover his minimum requirements, that's why we might be taking some time,” said another member of the team management.

It is understood that Das is eager to play the West Indies series. However, given his discomfort and grade of injury, it is unlikely that he will be present in the Playing XI of the team in the first Test. For the unaware, Bangladesh will play the West Indies' second Test in Sylhet from November 5.
