In a major development, Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is likely to miss the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies after being diagnosed with a labrum tear.
The injury has also raised doubts over his availability for Bangladesh tour of South Africa 2026, which is scheduled to begin in November.
It is important to note that Bangladesh will host West Indies for the first Test from October 28 to November 1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The second Test will take place from November 5 to 9 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Both matches are part of the ongoing 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Nahid Rana Set To Miss Bangladesh vs West Indies Tests
Nahid Rana was not included in Bangladesh's 15-member squad for the first Test against West Indies, which was announced on Friday (October 23). He is now expected to miss the entire home Test series as he continues his recovery.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed the injury to Cricbuzz after Nahid Rana underwent medical checks in Australia. Earlier, doctors suspected weakness and discomfort in his lower back and pelvic area.
“Yes, a labrum tear has been detected,” the aforementioned BCB official said. “He has already been given an injection in Australia and he has started his rehabilitation program. He is likely to bowl on Friday (October 30).
“If he fails to recover in time before the second Test (against South Africa) in that case he is likely to make a comeback to competitive cricket with the white-ball series against South Africa,” the official said.
However, Nahid Rana's return to competitive cricket remains uncertain. Bangladesh are scheduled to tour South Africa from November 15 for two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
