In a massive recent update, Ishan Kishan, India’s top-order batter, has been officially ruled out of the 3rd T20I match against New Zealand on October 27. The cricketer, who suffered an injury after the 1st T20I match, was replaced in the squad by Kumar Kushagra for the 2nd T20I.
The BCCI has now released a statement on Kishan’s recovery while stating that Kushagra will continue to be his replacement.

The BCCI shared an official statement on October 26, ruling Ishan Kishan out of the match. The statement also clarified that the batter is recovering well from his adductor strain and the medical team is monitoring his progress.
“Ishan Kishan is recovering well from his low-grade right adductor strain, which he sustained during the first T20I of the series against New Zealand.
He is yet to regain match fitness and is ruled out of the third T20I to be played on October 27, 2026, in Wellington. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Ishan's progress. Kumar Kushagra will continue to be with the team for the third T20I,” the BCCI stated.
Sooryavanshi to play 3rd T20I in place of Ishan Kishan?
In the Playing XI, though, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replaced Kishan in the 2nd T20I. Hence, it is likely that Sooryavanshi will once again fill the boots for Kishan, with Kumar Kushagra remaining on the sidelines.
While the BCCI hasn’t shared his recovery timeline yet, Kishan is likely to play the 4th or 5th T20I since the medical team has been positive about his recovery. The 4th T20I is on October 30, while the 5th T20I will be on November 1.
Meanwhile, Kishan’s performance in the 1st T20I was something to be criticised. The 31-year-old was out for just 1 run. Prior to the New Zealand tour, in India against West Indies, Kishan averaged 38.25 with the bat while playing 5 matches.
