In a recent development, Kieron Pollard, the newly appointed head coach of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2027, has denied his stint with Joburg Super Kings in the upcoming season of SA20.

Pollard, who has been a key part of MI Cape Town with the bat as well as with the ball in the last two seasons, will be unavailable for the 2027 stint, as confirmed by the CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan.

In a statement from Cricbuzz Exclusive, Kasi confirmed that Kieron Pollard will not be able to play for Joburg Super Kings.

“He has conveyed to us that he will not be able to play for Joburg Super Kings,” confirmed Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of CSK.

The priority lies in his role as the head coach of Mumbai Indians after Pollard replaced Mahela Jayawardene in the Mumbai Indians camp. Despite being roped in by JSK at the mini auction this month, Pollard informed the Super Kings management of his unavailability.

However, speaking of his stint in the SA20, he featured in the 2023 and 2025 seasons for MI Cape Town, where he bagged 207 runs from the 12 matches he played while picking up four wickets.

Notably, Pollard was roped in by JSK for R 1.5 million. Notably, during the auction, MICT chose not to wait and bid for the Caribbean all-rounder and instead signed Shimron Hetmyer.

Why did Kieron Pollard chose not to play SA20 2027?

Although no official reason has been stated by the Super Kings management, Pollard's sudden withdrawal from the tournament might be due to his commitment as Mumbai Indians head coach.

There would be no clash of dates between SA20 2027 and IPL 2027, since the SA20 will take place from January 17 and will end by February 21, with the IPL window being around March to April.

Still, Pollard's decision to quit the stint might be due to his involvement as a coach in the camp, as Mumbai Indians will be in its preparatory phase from the beginning of January 2027.
