If the T20 World Cup 2026 ouster was not humiliation enough, Bangladesh captain Litton Das has once again come into the limelight due to a comment that has now dragged Pakistan into the conversation.
As many know, Bangladesh was excluded from the T20 World Cup 2026, hosted by India and eventually won by the hosts. The Tigers were replaced after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Bangladesh government expressed concerns regarding security and logistical arrangements.
The issue became a major talking point in the cricketing world, particularly because it emerged amid strained diplomatic and sporting relations between India and Bangladesh.
While several attempts were reportedly made to ease tensions, Litton Das' recent remarks have once again brought the controversy into focus.
Bangladesh's Ouster From the T20 World Cup 2026
For those unaware, Bangladesh did not participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 after the BCB and the government declined to send the national team to India, citing security concerns.
The board requested that Bangladesh's matches be shifted to Sri Lanka, both through formal and informal channels.
However, the ICC rejected the proposal and maintained that there was no justification for relocating matches from India.
The situation became even more contentious as reports emerged that Bangladesh had restricted the broadcast of the IPL within its borders, further straining sporting relations between the two nations.

All Requests Rejected
On January 4, the BCB formally communicated its concerns to the ICC, but the governing body remained firm on its stance that the tournament would proceed as planned in India.
Around the same period, discussions surrounding Mustafizur Rahman's withdrawal from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp ahead of IPL 2026 also gained attention, although larger geopolitical and security concerns eventually overshadowed that development.
Bangladesh's absence from the tournament significantly altered the competition. Nevertheless, the tournament went ahead successfully, with India eventually lifting the trophy on home soil after a dominant campaign.
Litton Das Insults Pakistan Security
Amid these discussions, Bangladesh captain Das made a statement that attracted widespread attention.
Speaking about security arrangements during international tours, Litton recalled Bangladesh's experience while touring Pakistan, where players reportedly had armed security personnel stationed outside their hotel rooms throughout the series.
"The government said there was no safety in India. We said, 'We have played in Pakistan, so why not in India?' In Pakistan, there used to be an armed guard outside our rooms. What could be more dangerous than that? It was completely their decision,” Litton Das said.
He suggested that such measures reflected a much higher level of security concern than anything Bangladesh had cited regarding India.
Bangladesh Alarmed False Threat?
Whether Litton Das’ men genuinely faced a significant security threat by playing in India remains a matter of opinion, as the team ultimately never travelled to the country for the tournament.
However, the land of Sachin Tendulkar has a long history of successfully hosting major international sporting events, including ICC tournaments, IPL seasons, and bilateral cricket series involving teams from around the world.
The fact that the T20 World Cup concluded without any major security incidents further strengthened the argument that the concerns had been overstated.
