In the one-off Test against Afghanistan at Mullanpur, debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar delivered a match-defining performance, claiming 6 wickets for 33 runs in 22 overs as Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 in their first innings.
India declared their first innings at 564 for 8, taking a commanding 412-run lead and enforcing the follow-on. However, the spotlight was on Suthar’s figures, which marked one of the finest debuts by an Indian spinner, helping India maintain total control in the match that began on June 6, 2026.

Suthar struck with his fourth ball in Test cricket, dismissing Abdul Malik to become the first Indian in 25 years to take a wicket in the very first over of his men’s Test debut.

How Manav Got Into the International Scene?
Manav Suthar, a 23-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner and lower-order batsman from Rajasthan, earned his maiden India Test cap through consistent domestic performances and India A exposure.
In the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy, Suthar emerged as Rajasthan’s highest wicket-taker with 39 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 20.33.
In the 2025–26 season, he took 18 wickets in 3 matches, including 8/42 against Chhattisgarh. For India C in the Duleep Trophy, he scored 82 and claimed a 7-wicket haul in one game. With India A, he shone in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup and took 5/107 against Australia A.
IPL experience with Gujarat Titans and net-bowling stints for the senior team, where he earned praise from seniors like Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, further prepared him.
