Indian cricket might have a busier schedule than expected this year. While Team India is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka to play a two-match Test series in August, a recent report indicates that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is keen to add three T20I matches to the itinerary as well.
Moreover, now Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has reportedly approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with an offer of hosting the India A team in the near future. Hosting a series against India A at home might also help Nepal get India’s rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to play in front of packed Nepal cricket stadiums.
Nepal Cricket invites India A for series
As reported by the Times of India, a senior BCCI official has confirmed that CAN has approached the BCCI to present an offer of hosting the India A team in the near future.
The prospect of hosting an India A side is a significant opportunity for Nepal cricket, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity in the country and its ambition to secure more high-profile international fixtures on home soil.

Cricket is already a popular sport in Nepal. Many international matches in Nepal often witness packed crowds, and Nepal fixtures also saw record turnouts in India earlier this year during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
If India A indeed tours Nepal, there is also a strong possibility of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being included in the travelling group, thus generating considerable excitement among cricket fans in the country.
India likely to play three T20Is in Sri Lanka
Apart from India A playing a possible series in Nepal, the Indian cricket team might also play a three-match Test series in Sri Lanka. Team India is already scheduled to tour the island nation this August to play a two-match Test series.
The series will form a part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
According to the report, discussions are ongoing between the BCCI and the SLC in a bid to add extra T20I fixtures as the Sri Lankan board is keen on hosting the additional games during an available 15-day window.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to tour Ireland, England after IPL 2026 riches
In the meantime, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is preparing himself to tour Ireland and England in a few days’ time for a full-fledged T20I series against the two host nations.
The rising Indian star was recently selected in Team India squad for the two tours by the BCCI. If the 15-year-old gets selected in the Indian playing XI at any stage of the two tours, he will become the youngest cricketer to make his international debut for India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 37-year-old record.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recently won the ‘Orange Cap’ award in the IPL 2026 season for plundering 776 runs in just 16 innings of the tournament at a prolific average of 48.50. The belligerent left-hander launched 72 sixes in the competition, surpassing Chris Gayle in terms of notching up the highest number of sixes in a single IPL season.
