Michael Vaughan has launched a scathing attack on the Jay Shah-led International Cricket Council (ICC). The former England captain alleged that the travelling arrangements of teams like West Indies and South Africa have been sidelined by the BCCI and the ICC in India, claiming that the apex body has only prioritized England so far.

It is worth noting that both, West Indies and South Africa players are still stranded in India even though it has been a while since the two teams were knocked out of the 2026 T20 World Cup race. What Vaughan failed to address that the two groups are stranded in Kolkata owing to the prevailing USA-Iran war and the Middle East crisis, one which has impacted international air travel.

Michael Vaughan stirs up WI, SA controversy; indirectly blames ICC and India

Former England captain Michael Vaughan took to X on Tuesday, March 10 has launched a scathing attack on the T20 World Cup 2026 authorities. Without naming the ICC or the BCCI, the cricketer-turned-commentator indirectly blamed the two bodies for allegedly favoring England and sidelining South Africa and West Indies players in the process.

Amidst the ongoing Middle East crisis and the impact of worldwide international air travel, Vaughan stated that even though special charted flights were arranged in just 36 hours for England players, the ICC is yet to do the same for West Indies and South Africa cricketers.

The ex-English batter further acknowledged the fact that West Indies players are in Kolkata even though they were knocked out of the 2026 T20 World Cup about 10 days ago on March 1. The South Africa team, on the other hand, were eliminated on March 4 with a defeat to New Zealand at the Eden Gardens.

Taking to X, Michael Vaughan wrote “Just to let you all know that the West Indies got knocked out of the World Cup on March 1st .. it’s now March 9th .. they are still stranded in Kolkata .. SA are in the same position .. !!!!!!!!!!!! This isn’t right … England got on a charter 36 hrs after being knocked out .. as should be the case for all teams.”

Daren Sammy leads WI’s frustration

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has also repeatedly expressed his frustration over the matter as his team continues to remain stranded in India after the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The former cricketer has already shared a series of posts on X over the past week or so. In turn, Sammy has been heavily criticized by a legion of Indian cricket fans for failing to attribute the ongoing Middle East crisis for West Indies team’s overstay and “needlessly complaining” despite enjoying the hospitality of an Indian five-star hotel.

ICC gives update for West Indies, South Africa players

A few days ago, the ICC gave an update about the travelling arrangements of West Indies and South Africa players amidst the disruption of international air travel caused by the Middle East crisis.

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the apex body confirmed that both South Africa and West Indies cricketers will be taking a charter flight to travel to the rainbow nation, from where the West Indies players will take another flight to reach their homelands in the Caribbean.

However, as of March 10, both the South African and West Indies players are still in India as they await further clarity on their travel arrangements.
