Jason Holder skittles Nepal despite Dipendra Singh’s 58
Getting invited to bat first, Nepal lost opener Kushal Bhurtel for just a single in the first over of the match to West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein (1-30). Captain Rohit Paudel and Bhurtel’s opening partner Aasif Sheikh also fell within the double digits in quick succession courtesy of Matthew Forde (1-10) and Jason Holder respectively as Nepal slipped to 17-3 in 4.1 overs.
Holder also struck after the powerplay with the wicket of Nepal’s number five Aarif Sheikh for just two at 23-4. Dipendra Singh Airee shared a courageous fifth-wicket stand with Lokesh Bam, but their combined efforts merely extended Nepal’s total to 46 around the halfway stage of the innings before the latter’s soft dismissal to tearaway paceman Shamar Joseph (1-38).
Roston Chase (1-10) knocked over a well-set Gulsan Jha at 73-6, before Dipendra Singh Airee soared Nepal past the 100-run mark with a counterattacking 54-run stand with Sompal Kami. Unbeaten Kami launched four boundaries in his late surge to bash 26* off just 15 balls, while Airee top-scored in the innings with his well-compiled 58.
Nepal eventually charted 133-8 in 20 overs, with Jason Holder unfurling the spell of the innings through figures of 4-27.
Shai Hope and Hetmyer cruise West Indies past Nepal
West Indies opener Brandon King struck four boundaries in his enterprising 17-ball 22 before chipping one to mid-on off Nepal pacer Nandan Yadav. Joining captain Shai Hope at the crease in the sixth over of the powerplay, number three Shimron Hetmyer belted four cracking boundaries and two huge sixes to smear 46* off just 32 balls.
Captain Hope found time to chart a fiery half-century, racing to 61* off just 44 balls with five boundaries and three maximums. The skipper also notched up the winning runs for West Indies in 15.2 overs with nine wickets remaining in the bank.
