In a groundbreaking development, former England legend James Anderson is set to feature in the Italia T10 league. He will captain the Napoli Knights, along with co-owning the franchise.

The 44-year-old remained relevant even two years after his retirement, as England's highest wicket-taker was contracted to Lancashire until the end of the County season recently concluded season.

James Anderson partners with ex Lancashire colleague to run Napoli Knights

As his 25-year association with the Lancashire county came to an end, James Anderson has decided to switch his base to Italy for the second innings of his professional life.

Anderson has partnered with a former colleague from Lancashire, Luke Sutton. The former cricketers will handle the operations of the Napoli Knights under the banner of Activate Sport and Leisure, a British talent management agency.

"The league announced on Tuesday that Napoli Knights, one of its franchises, would be operated by Activate Sport and Leisure, a British talent management agency," Cricinfo reported.

The experienced swing bowler will captain and co-own one of the six franchises in the Italia T10 league, which will run from November 18 to 29.

In addition to the former Englishman, legendary names like Chris Gayle, Shaun Marsh and Dawid Malan will also feature in the Italia T10 league.

James Anderson's future uncertain after Lancashire exit despite stellar season

Although James Anderson's time with Lancashire has come to an end, the speedster hasn't made it public whether he will play for some other team in the next County season.

Notably, he was among the best bowlers last season, bagging 50 wickets at 17.68. He finished seventh on the Division 2 wicket-takers’ list, as Lancashire failed to get promoted to Division 1.

Overall, Anderson has taken 1193 wickets in First-Class cricket. He took close to 1000 wickets in international cricket after playing 401 matches. He retired from international cricket in July 2024.

Whether he chooses to continue with another team or brings his professional playing career to a close remains to be seen.
