Former English pacer and veteran of the game, Stuart Broad, has come out in support of another English legend, James Anderson. Notably, Anderson was ousted by English county team Lancashire.
Lancashire didn't renew the contract of Anderson this month despite the bowler staying loyal to the team since 2002. In the last county season, Anderson captained them while taking 50 wickets in 11 Championship games at an average of 17. Stuart Broad slammed this decision from Lancashire while supporting Anderson.
Stuart Broad brutally critics Lancashire for Anderson treatment
Earlier this week, James Anderson expressed his disappointment at the decision from Lancashire, and now Stuart Broad, who has also been a veteran of the English cricket team and County Championship, has come out to support his former teammate.
"I didn't like it from Lancashire. It was not done in the right way. I think it was disrespectful. You give your icons or greats of the game a better send-off than that,” the 40-year-old said on the For The Love of Cricket podcast.
"It shows a lack of leadership at that club [Lancashire]. It shows a lack of doing it the right way. Paul Farbrace [Director of Cricket] is new, but where is the chair? Where is the board demanding that this is done in a better way? I get the thought process, 'we could probably get two half-decent cricketers for the one and losing that salary'."
Anderson still in demand among other county clubs
Notably, James Anderson, if British media reports are to be believed, is still in demand among other county clubs. Many counties have shown interest in Anderson, and Stuart Broad has commented on this exact possibility as not a surprise.
"It doesn't surprise me that some counties have already been on the phone and seeing what his interest levels are. I don't know what his next steps are. I think his statement was quite interesting. There will be a lot of counties that want him. He offers a huge amount, he's still one of the best bowlers in the country," he said.
For the unaware, the 44-year-old has 1,193 wickets in first-class cricket, having played 315 matches while bowling at an average of 24.25 and striking at 52.0.
