James Anderson has penned an emotional farewell note for the Lancashire cricket club. Just earlier this month, the club refused to extend the contract of the legendary fast bowler for the 2027 County Championship next year.

While several reports claimed that Anderson might announce his retirement from competitive cricket following his Lancashire exit, several other counties have demonstrated their interest in acquiring the seasoned warhorse.

James Anderson extends best wishes for Lancashire

On Sunday, October 25, James Anderson took to his Instagram account and penned a farewell message after parting ways with the Lancashire cricket club.

Claiming to be a Lancashire fan since his childhood days, the legendary fast bowler expressed his gratitude in representing the prestigious English cricket club for 25 years between 2002 and 2026.

James Anderson also implied that he was willing to continue playing for Lancashire, but extended his best wishes to the players and the fans of the cricket club for future seasons.

He wrote “I’ve supported Lancashire since I was kid, and so to get to play for them for 25 years was a dream come true. I have always found it special walking out to play at Old Trafford and have some incredible memories of doing so including the honour of being captain - if it was up to me it wouldn’t have ended like this, but I wish the players and fans all the best for the future.”

Retirement not on the cards as James Anderson gathers interest from other counties

One of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, the legendary former England paceman also indirectly rubbished recent rumours that hinted his retirement after Lancashire exit.

Demonstrating no hints of any retirement mindset on his social media post, the 44-year-old has also reportedly gathered a keen interest from several English counties for next year’s 2027 County Championship season.

The report also states that cricket clubs from both Divisions of the County Championship will soon be approaching Anderson to negotiate a deal.

Notably, James Anderson recently served as the captain of the Lancashire team in this year’s 2026 County Championship season, where he collected 50 wickets from just 11 innings of 21 matches at an average of 17.68 and with a strike rate of 38.66.
