The Mumbai Indians franchise is in the process of finalizing a support staff for the Kieron Pollard-led coaching group. The five-time winners currently have four options to finalize as their next assistant coach, which includes two former Indian players and two ex-Australian cricketers.

Notably, Pollard himself was recently appointed as the head coach of the Mumbai Indians franchise as a replacement for outbound Mahela Jayawardene.

Aaron Finch in race to become Pollard’s assistant in IPL 2027

Former Australian captain and T20 World Cup winner Aaron Finch is one of the leading candidates to join the Kieron Pollard-led coaching group as the next assistant coach of the Mumbai Indians franchise.

However, the franchise also has three more options to choose from, as per a report by the Times of India. The report states that another T20 veteran from Australia, as well as two former Indian cricketers are in consideration to join the franchise.

One of those two Indian players have purportedly already represented the Mumbai Indians franchise as a cricketer in the past.

Aaron Finch himself played a handful of games for the Mumbai Indians during his playing days way back in the 2015 edition of the tournament.

T Dilip to join as fielding coach, Malinga to continue

Additionally, Paras Mhambrey and former Sri Lanka cricketer Lasith Malinga will continue to serve the Mumbai Indians franchise as their bowling coach in next year’s IPL 2027 season.

Meanwhile, T Dilip is the frontrunner to become the fielding coach of the team. In such a case, Dilip will be re-joining Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the MI camp after serving the Indian cricket team as its fielding coach up until this year.

There is also a strong possibility of team captain and legendary all-rounder Hardik Pandya being traded off to another franchise. However, report states that the development will likely heat up further as the deadline for the player retention window approaches.

With Mumbai Indians reshaping their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027, the franchise is expected to make several key decisions in the coming weeks as it prepares for its first silverware in over six years.
