BCB mourns the death of promising young pacer
Mehedi Hasan Hridoy breathed his last in Dhaka on Saturday, October 24, after battling leukaemia. He was part of the Chattogram Division Under-18 team and had attracted attention as a promising left-arm pace bowler.
Although Hridoy was at an early stage of his cricketing career, his performances and potential had given hope for his future in the game. His death has cut short that journey, leaving his family, loved ones and the wider cricket community grieving.
The BCB expressed deep sorrow over his passing in an official statement, remembering the young cricketer for his promise and extending its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expresses profound sadness at the passing of young cricketer Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, who passed away in Dhaka today after battling leukaemia.
The BCB extends its heartfelt condolences to Hridoy’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in this time of grief,” the BCB shared in a statement.
Bangladesh Cricket Board provided financial assistance for treatment
Before Hridoy's death, the BCB had provided financial assistance of Tk 5 lakh to support his treatment. However, despite the assistance and efforts to help him fight the illness, the young cricketer could not recover.
Nevertheless, Hridoy's passing is a painful loss for those who followed his progress in cricket. At a time when he was beginning to build his career, his battle with leukaemia came to a tragic end.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board's tribute has recognised not only the loss of a young player but also the promise that his future in the sport once held.
