The Pakistan cricket team edged out England in a thrilling finish in match number four of the Pakistan ODI tri-series 2026. Chasing 242 runs for a win in Lahore on October 25, Shadab Khan bludgeoned a sparkling century with the tail to nearly knock England out of the tri-series.
Notably, the outcome also marked a historic one for Pakistan in ODI matches against England.
Pakistan go back-to-back against England in 1 series after 16 years
Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan pulled off a Glenn Maxwell-esque ODI innings with a spectacular run chase century against England in match number four of the 2026 ODI tri-series in Lahore.
Chasing 242 runs for a win and crashing to 154-9, Shadab crafted 89* runs with number 11 Haris Rauf, where the latter only chipped in with 7* off 19 deliveries.
The all-rounder himself launched 13 boundaries and five huge sixes to slap 113* from 96 balls, thus nothing up his maiden List A century and his maiden international century in any format.
With Pakistan securing a thrilling one-wicket win in 47.1 overs, they have registered two straight wins over England in the ongoing 2026 Pakistan ODI tri-series. The last time Pakistan secured back-to-back ODI wins over England within the space of a single series occurred way back in September 2010 in England.
Back then, all-round brilliance from Umar Gul and a blistering cameo from Abdul Razzaq helped Pakistan beat hosts England in the third and fourth ODI of their then five-match ODI series in London.
More than 16 years later, a Pakistan team has now once again beaten England twice in a row in a single series, albeit this time at home and under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi.
Shadab Khan notches up huge world record to fuel Pakistan’s historic win
It took a whirlwind effort from all-rounder Shadab Khan to script a historic ODI win for Pakistan against England on October 25.
Khan clattered 113* runs off just 96 balls, and mounted most of those runs during his record tenth-wicket partnership of 89* with number 11 Haris Rauf. Notably, Shadab Khan’s innings now marks the highest individual score in ODI history by a number eight batter, surpassing Simi Singh’s five-year-old record.
Highest Individual Score by a Number 8 Batter in ODIs:
- 113* – Shadab Khan [Pakistan] vs England, Lahore, 2026, Tonight*
- 100* – Simi Singh [Ireland] vs South Africa, Malahide, 2021
- 100* - Mehidy Hasan Miraz [Bangladesh] vs India, Mirpur, 2022
With three wins in succession, including two against England and one against Sri Lanka, the Pakistan cricket team has now stormed into the final of the 2026 ODI tri-series.
