Cricket Ireland has named a strong 14-player squad for Ireland’s upcoming two-match T20I series against India at home. The Irish selection committee has also appointed new captain in the form of Lorcan Tucker after the sudden resignation of legendary opener Paul Stirling.

It is worth noting that Stirling stepped down from the captaincy role following Ireland’s first-round exit from the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka earlier this year.

In his absence, Tucker led the national side in their final Group B match of the tournament against Oman and has been appointed as the skipper in the Ireland T20I squad vs India.

The Ireland cricket team is currently plagued with injury concerns to several of its senior and first-choice players.

Prolific opener and former captain Paul Stirling is yet to recover from his calf injury, the one he sustained during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

As he continues to attain full recovery, Stirling has been ruled out of the Ireland T20I squad vs India.

Similarly, Cricket Ireland has also excluded fast bowler Josh Little (stress fracture), Mark Adair (rectus muscle tear), Curtis Campher (hand fracture), Barry McCarthy (complete ACL tear) and Jordan Neill (shoulder and foot injury) owing to their injury concerns.

In turn, the selection committee has named three potential debutants in the Ireland T20I squad vs India in the form of Matthew Hollard, Jai Moondra and Reuben Wilson.

Lorcan Tucker will lead the national side, and he will also be accompanied by fellow star performers like Ross Adair, George Dockrell, Harry Tector, among others. Here is a look at the complete Ireland squad for the T20I series against India.

Lorcan Tucker teases his approach to captaincy

Lorcan Tucker, a veteran of 91 T20Is, expressed his excitement upon becoming Ireland’s captain in the shortest form of the game.

During a media release, the cricketer said “It’s obviously a great privilege, and not one I thought would arrive when I started my career all those years ago. There’s a feeling of responsibility to the playing group and organisation to represent them well and also to all the other captains who came before me.”

Tucker also said that he wants to lead the team by example, thus sending out a stern challenge to the visiting Indian team ahead of their series. He added “My approach to the captaincy is to lead from within and by example. I feel like it’s my job to bring the best out of them and give them the opportunity to do amazing things for themselves and us as a team.”

India vs Ireland T20I series schedule

Team India will tour Ireland to play a two-match T20I series against the hosts. The matches will be hosted on Friday, June 26 and Sunday, June 28 later this week. Both fixtures will be staged at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast.

The series serves as first T20I assignment for both sides since the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 a couple of months ago.
